I'm thinking of joining one of those stock photo websites. I've never taken photos from a studio setting. The pics I'd like to take would be mostly objects on isolated white background. What type of lighting equipments would I need without having to do so much photoshop work to obtain a nice white background, that could perhaps used for portraits? I heard some things about the Alien Bees stuff.. but have no clue in terms of setting it up and so forth. Is there some decently priced lighting equipments for stock photos $300-$500? I've seen some table top items and light tents on eBay, but it doesn't look like it would yield quality results. If I need to do portraits and stock photos, would the Alien Bee stuff work well? How many of them would I need? Any other recommendations are welcomed. Thanks in advance for your advices.

More expensive isn't always better, try these for a inexpensive light tent.

For portraits I would check out the strobist blog //strobist.blogspot.com/ and the strobist flickr group //www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/
