Hi, ok, i'm on a budget... I went to the strobist webpage but I am a bit confused...

Here is what I have:

Nikon D50 (lenses are not a factor...)

SB-600
SB-28
SC29
Lightsphere II (Cloud)

I love the light you get from a softbox setup...

What can I do with what I have?

what else should I get? ... (on a budget)

I know lighting is pretty much the most important factor in equipment (you may disagree)

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance! =)

oh, also i don't know the best way to use both those flashes at the same time (the sb-600 can only be a slave to the sb-800)

sometihng with a hotshoe to PC and then run the PC to the SB-28... but the only hotshoe=pc adapters i saw on ebay looked like junk

i don't know... help me out...

Not enough info to answer this. you have to include what YOU want to do. Technically there is nothing you CAN'T do even without flashes. There is always a way to work around things.

ok... well, ultimately, I want to create the light that i would get from a soft box like the alienbee b1600...

I would also like to know the best way to do macro work, as i am planning on getting a 105mm lens...

the alienbee setup that i want is like $1000 including the power pack... so i want to attempt to immitate that light with what i have or not spend much more...

You can bounce your flash heads off umbrellas. Use your 600 as your main light (get a sync cord to the camera) and your 800 will fire when the 600 fires.

You can get umbrellas for pretty inexpensive, mine were 27 bucks and are both bounce and shoot through.

well, i don't actually have an 800... just a 600 and sb-28... how can I use those together?

Will shooting through an unbrella be the same as a soft box?

sorry! I thought I saw 800.

I think it depends on the look you are going for, for portraits I prefer the umbrella, because I like the catch lights it makes. But sometimes I use the softbox too.

I use the softbox for lighting non-portrait items too, I think I get better light control from it.
