It is. AMPhotoworld is one of the worst-rated retailers on the planet. They have a lifetime rating of .65 (out of 10) in a field where the average rating is over 8. The reason this price is so low is that they're selling you JUST the camera- no battery, software, manual or anything else you'd normally get in the box. You won't even get the Canon warranty. They will then try to sell you each piece as an 'accessory' as an inflated price. Consider yourself warned. |
Thanks. I'm not going for it. |

Two favorite sites: www.epinions.com and //www.imaging-resource.com/DIGCAM01.HTM - you can compare cameras, read reviews from other users, etc., on epinions. You can search by price, lens size, etc. On Imaging-resource, you can read extremely detailed reviews and results of professional tests on the cameras. YOu can also do a search by two or three cameras and compare the tests in each category. Good luck! |

The best camera for a $ 1.000 is probably my Sony 717:
1 Camera
1 Charger
1 USB Cable
2 Sony batteries
1 256 MB Memory Stick Pro
2 128 MB Memory Stick
1 32 MB Memory Stick
1 Raynox DCR Pro Telephoto Conversion lens 1.85x (pouch)
1 Pro Superwide Digital Optics lens (pouch and wooden box)
1 Loewe Pro Bag
The camera is in mint condition.

I would agree with Zeussen - it is a good idea to consider a second-hand. Once upon a time a found myself in the photo store saying good bye to 600CAD for a soap-box-type-camera which I was going to carry around every day in my pocket making reat shots. And saw this used DiMAGE 7Hi for the same price. I grabbed it without thinking and did not regret if for a second! Never mind that I wanted to get into Canon SLR domain with time - for an amateur 7Hi is more than enough. In a couple of years I will be making a tough decision wether to stay with Minolta (if I invest in the flash unit) or switch to Canon, but now I am quite happy with what I got. By the way, now you can get 7Hi for about $600 US brand-new from the stores that still have the stock. Spend the rest of your allowance on the flash light and/or flash cards :-))
