I'm tempted to say it's some form of cicada, since I am still hearing that sound coming from the very tops of my neighbors trees and deep in bushes behind my house. Plus it has a long thingy sticking out of it's chin like the cicada that were here last month. It's definitely a little bigger... about 2.5 inches, maybe 3.

Sorry for the poor dof. I had my camera manually set for high speed flash when I noticed the bug from inside my office (I thought it was a hummingbird at first). So I ran outside, followed it for half hour or so, caught it in a jar, and really didn't know what to do next. It raised such a fuss, I started to worry about it's wings, so I clicked my settings to P (for professional :)) and shot a couple quickly before it flew in my face.

So what is it?
