ATV/OHV owner/riders: this happened while riding. The rear bolt on the A-arm came out and the whole assembly just fell apart. It could have been really, really ugly. Fortunately, nobody was injured. We were able to fix the bike on the trail and nothing was bent - unbelievable!

If you own an ATV/OHV, PLEASE, go out now and check the tightness of your suspension bolts! This ATV is only 3 years old and has been serviced regularly at the shop and has not been abused.

Holy crap, that's not good o.O
I wonder if you can complain to the manufacturer perhaps? It really shouldn't be possible...

Freak thing.....please do not be an alarmist, the likelihood of it happening is infinitessimal.

Machines are assembled by humans and errors occur.

You cannot possibly go around checking torque on fasteners on everything......cars, buses, trucks, planes, motorcycles, amusement park rides.......

You have to have some faith.

Or never leave the house......8>)

Actually, Jeb, in the case of airplanes, these things are checked all the time. Several times a year regular inspections are performed that go over the whole airframe. Add to which, parts such as bolts and fasteners are usually safety-wired into place for an added margin.

Frankly, I'm not sure why this kind of maintenance isn't standard on more types of equipment. And while it might be an infinitessimal chance, I'm still going to take a look at my ATV - how long does it take to perform a check that might save you from trouble/injury down the road? I think the (maybe) 20 minutes are worth it.

Faith doesn't get you much at 15,000 feet when your engine craps out (or on the trail when you're 25 miles into the woods and your ATV falls apart) :-)
