Last night I was looking at the Moon through my binoculars (just ordered my telescope) and I noticed a "star" just below it to the right, which I knew was Jupiter. Then I noticed two little dots at either side of Jupiter. My first thought was, "holy cow!, I think those are two of its satellites!" and frankly, I still think that's what they were, but I just want to make sure I'm not mistaken. I was reading on an april skywatcher chart that on April 6th two of Jupiters moons will cast a shawdow on the giant jovian planet, Io and Europe...I wonder if those are the ones I saw. Once gain, thanks in advance.

You probably did see two of the Galilean satellites (Ganymede and Callisto are the other two). |

With my 10x50 binocs mounted on a tripod, I can usually discern some of Jupiter's moons. It looks a lot better through my 8" telescope though....

James, all I saw with my binocs was a big dot with two little dots next to it, not much, but enough to impress me. My binocs are 10x50 and I have to hand hold them since they don't have a tripod screw thingie. Can't wait till my telescope arrives!!! It's only 4.5 inches, but better than nothing.

PS. I tried taking a pic of Jupiter with the moons, but all I have is my 300D and a 300mm lens...not enough. I however got this shot of Venus and the Pleiades.
