I had a cheerleader friend who was involved in the same kind of accident in 1986. It changed her life and also changed mine.

There are a few fundraisers going on for Ashlee in and around New Orleans, Louisiana. I was wondering if it would be possible to hold a "raffle" here on DPC. I know you guys and girls are of the caring type. I've seen you purchase cameras "sight unseen" for those less fortunate than us !

Do you think it is possible to say...raffle off a Canon, Nikon, or other brand lens (the winner would pick the brand). I would show a few lens' in a certain price range that could be chosen from. I would also put a firm dollar amount on the prize. My guess would be from the $400 to $600 range. "Tickets" may cost...$5 to $10 each.

I would put in the first $100 and have you kind soles send in through a PayPal account. I would set a raffle date and a firm price for a "ticket". Any funds over the cost of the lens will go to Ashlee's medical expenses. (Maybe some kind soul will donate a lens.)

A few questions arise: Is this legal and how would I "pull" a name so that you will all know the contest was fair?

Do you think this is worth a try here on DPC?

don't know about all the legal stuff -- might want to bounce it off langdon and get his approval.

as far as "choosing the number," I've seen blogs that use a number generator to choose a number. Assign every entry a number, then find a generator online, tell it the parameters, and it picks your number for you.

or, you could draw a name out of a hat.

Bump....I received a few private emails from people I know wishing to donate...thanks to you all...

However, I feel we could really raise close to $1500 here on DPC.
