Leo, you're SOOOO wrong. I'm just as much a wreck the whole week as I was when I won my first ribbon. I'm hitting the update button a thousand times a day. Checking my score constantly, always sleeping badly the night before the challenge starts and the night before it ends..... It's still THE most exciting experience I know (photographically speaking ;-) In fact, I'd rather have a good score than have a night out with Josh Holloway..... |

Just as well. You'd turn peeing in a cup into a ribbon winning photo anyway. ;-) |

That seriously gives me hope.
I love my D70s and always thought it was capable of better images than I can do yet.
Thanks, Irene! |
Jeb, I must tell you this. We went into town tonight after work because my husband wanted to check something out in our local camera shop. The owner of the shop actually asked me if I would sell him my D70 and D50 back. He said they were very sought after cameras and he could make me a good price. I told him "no way". My D70 was the first camera that gave me hope and I would never part with it for just that reason. Even if it was hanging in bits. I learned so much using it and the D50 is also a star in my book.
I was just doing some experimenting for a shot I want to try out and I thought to myself "c'mon use your D2X for a change". I started off with the D2X and after only 5 minutes changed to my D50 and immediately started getting the look I was going for. I love all my cameras but I promise you - the price of the camera has nothing to do with getting a good shot. |
The D50 is an awesome camera! I still use mine 90% of the time. It seems to have more dynamic range than my D200 and when I edit the D200 photos I get artifacts really quickly. I am guessing my D50 is over 50k clicks. I'll use it until the shutter falls off, which could be any day now. I used to have a bunch of photos on the D50 page, until Irene realized its secret powers. lol I think she should get a D3. :P |

I might start a new side challenge with ribbon hogs. I gather around 5 to 10 hogs with at least 10 or more ribbons, and let's see between all of us, if we can get ribbons each week. at least one ribbon a week between us, more would be better, but not necessary. Let's see 5 to 10 hogs (could be from old hogs or create a new group) we can compete with IreneM LOL |

I would love to get my hands on the D3 but I'm terrified that I'd still end up using the D50 and the D3 would sit in the camera bag like the D2X does a lot of the time.
I'm also worried about what I'm going to do when the D50 shutter falls off ;-) Maybe we should form a self-help group. |

I'm sure the replacement of the shutter would
only be a couple hundred US. Fear not. I turned off my update button and the very next challenge I got my only ribbon. I suspect if yours were turned off Irene, you'd never ribbon again. :) You drink in the thrill of the hunt. The huntress Artemis Diana incarnate. |

How about a "How To" DVD? Joey Lawerence has 10 ribbons and once put a DVD in the forums and they were purchased for HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS....EACH !
You have THREE TIMES the amount of ribbons....you could clean up ! |

I don't sell (or pay for) tips and techniques. I offer what I can freely in the forums, and explain everything in my photo comments. Donations cheerfully accepted, but I'm just here to have fun and learn. I glean insight from the brilliant work of IreneM, Kiwiness, Larus, Alexsaberi, Librodo, DrAchoo, Ursula and dozens of others just by observing and reading, just as I'm sure they did as they developed their own talents.

I think with Joey Lawrence it was more about a community recognizing the talents of a very young skilled photographer/Artist and simply WANTING to help finance his development. Now look at him FLY... Fly away Joey.

I was checking the lens "Tamron SP AF 90mm". In the top rated images section, out of 15 images 11 are from Irene........ I think Tamron can use her photos for their ads...... :) Fantastic...

Interesting that all but two of those top 15, including all of Irene's, are splashes, drops or other liquids. We're obsessed! |

Do not look at those drops too long. They have hypnotic effects... don't look too much... must not look too much... must not.... must stay away....
*silence*
*very cold voice, repeating to himself*
....
"I must give my bank account information to IreneM; I must change my will to leave everything IreneM after I die... IreneM is the best person and photographer in the world.. IreneM for world president... hmmmmmmmmm... mmmmmmm... hommmmmmmmm... drops are gooooooood..."

So people purchased a $200 DVD to recognize the talents of a very young skilled photographer because they wanted to finance his development?
I think the only difference between IreneM and Joey L. is the "very young" part !

I was not making a comparison between irene and joey I was just making an observation as to why people did not mind paying for his DVD... you know?... to help him along his way...
Irene is very talented and if she made a DVD of her technique Im certain people would buy it also... there, understand what I meant now?

I understood from the beginning. That's why I replied again. I thought it unusual that people would shell out the dollars to help the kid along his way. Looking back I guess you're right. If I remember correctly, I think the DPC community bought him an expensive Canon. I may be wrong though...that may have been paid for with the earnings from his first DVD.
