I am just wasting away my time and not shooting anything, I need some gigs to make some money. Anyone have any ideas on how I should try and find someone that needs a photographer?

Also I want to create some t-shirts with my name and website on them so I can do some free advertising. Anyone got ideas about that???
Myspace huh? I have to be honest, I HATE myspace. I can make a page on there but my wife has a myspace account and I just stay away from it because I think it's a waste of time, hahahaha. But if it makes me money I will do just about anything. Does anyone else use myspace for advertising?

What do you want to shoot? What can you shoot? (experience, gear considerations)
Craigslist will probably get you some low end weddings. Bands are always looking for pics but rarely want to pay much of anything for them.
Join your local PPA and go to some meetings, talk to people, introduce yourself. Tell them your looking for some work to get started and grow from there.

Please share how! I have had a myspace site for almost a year now and haven't had a hit by people I haven't met personally and sent to my page. |

Put photographer on there and you'll get 'models', aka hookers, that then get their accounts closed. I'm in the same boat - no one comes to my myspace page. Must be some way to promote it like anything else.
A guy I used to know (he's since moved to florida and I rarely have any contact) does Buffet-style music for a living and googling his name brings up his Myspace page ahead of his regular page - but its a VERY active myspace page.
His name is Jimi Banks if you want to see what I mean

Yeah that is pretty cool but I think I will just avoid the whole myspace thing. Seems like a waste to me.
Does anyone else do anything to promote their business? |

Just go out with your gear in public a lot. When I have one of my big white lens on me, about half the time I'm out somewhere like the zoo or a garden I get asked if I do jobs for hire. Usually they want someone to come to their house and take family photos.
Or craigslist? |

Myspace is a royal waste of time. Join facebook and create a group to show your portfolio. I get a lot of traffic in my group and lots of request to shoot stuff. U have to join facebook to see it though. |

Some random thoughts --
What kind of shooting do you want to do? There are lots of different "niche" areas that can generate work, but where you look and advertise depends on which-niche you want. For example, I do mostly theatre and concerts -- my market is a bit different from wedding -- and that market is different from glamor -- that market is different from pet photography (no, really -- there's money to be made there) -- etc, etc, etc.
Sure, lots of areas (and photographers) overlap, but I think you'll do best (or at least "better") if you focus your efforts, or at least present yourself to the public as focused. For better or worse, people gravitate to specialists when it comes to hiring someone, for different reasons -- the most common is that they assume specialists are better at their specialty than generalists. There's a lot of latitude there and I'm not saying I agree with that, but when you are trying to attract the public, I think you have to do a little social engineering of your own.
If you're looking for stuff you can do on your own time to make some money, have you considered stock photography? Whole forum here dedicated to that. Not saying you'll replace other work with stock, but if you have down-time, stock is fun way to keep shooting and have a little something to show for it in the long run.
Finally, since someone already mentioned myspace (uuuuugggg! shudder!), I may as well mention Model Mayhem -- the myspace for models. You have to weed through the crazies (like any social networking site), but there are models, photographers, makeup artists, etc, etc, just begging (literally sometimes) for work -- paid and trade.
