Today!
Just got it, this thing is BIG. Need to compensate for something, the SB-900 will do just fine. It recycles noticeably faster than the sb-800 with five batteries. AND I got mine for much less than $500 USD. Oh, when you shoot at full power it sounds like a laser gun from a sci-fi movie. No, noticeable power up wine either.

How'd you get it cheaper?! I'd love to know. I think I'll venture over to National Camera tomorrow, as they said they'd give me full value for my SB-800 back if I trade it towards an SB-900. That's awesome that it doesn't whine with powerup, that's one of the most annoying things; I'll take my SB-800 off camera and it sits there whining until I realize I didn't turn it off X_x

Got any shots of it mounted on your D300?

Seems like a great flash with that light pattern thing.... Did you see the bit about the hotshoe been thicker then in the past - the Strobist site is building a list of accessories it does not fit into now.

Edit: Here is the link.

Feels MUCH MUCH more durable than the sb-600 and sb-800. The diffuser that it uses is much better too..

Would it be worth it to trade in the SB-800 I just bought for it?

Something must be wrong... Nikon announced a new product BEFORE I bought the current model. I fully expected this flash to be announced a week or two AFTER I bought a new SB800. Now I can wait for the new one to be available, I'll just have to clear some room in my bag... where am I going to put this PIG? How much more powerful is it than the SB600 (I own) and the SB800 (I was about to buy)?

The Nikongods spared you, and made ME buy an SB-800 2 weeks before the SB-900 was announced XD
