Does any one know of a fire wire card reader for compact flash cards that plugs right into a laptop without any cord , directly into the port thanks

I love the Sandisk Extreme Fireware CF Card Reader.

You need a firewire port on your laptop ... in fact, you need at least the 6-pin version of the firewire port because the reader needs power. But you'll LOVE the speed of the Firewire reader. Especially if you have Sandisk Extreme IV cards. Check out a thread I posted (one year ago tomorrow): Now I'm a Believer!

I already have a fire wire card reader but it has a 24 inch cord , I am going on a trip and looking for something smaller , maybe something that plugs right into my macbook without a cord .

Hmmm... no ideas there. Maybe you can just get a shorter cord? Or bundle up your 24" cord?
