I'm still learning how to play with my lights, but have no idea how this happened...the banding at the bottom is not due to lighting it is in camera!

f4.0 1/500 iso 100

this pic is untouched, and had a whole series of these with the banding on the bottom..it is not the lens, nor the light positioning...
it showed up part way through a shoot, and then got rid of it by switching my aperture... just to 4.5, and 1/320

dropped my camera a week ago, is that why?

had a stressful day, had to shoot a few different people and then had this problem, would appreciate any insights...
thanks in advance...

I believe Canon uses a multi blade shutter. It looks to me like it may not be fully retracting. Could be a blade out of alignment.

edit- When I read you'd dropped the camera my mind went immediatly to damage. Darkriders explanation is much more likely. Good call- must be the pessimist in me.

I have low ceilings in my appt. and they are white. so one day i took a speed light and pointed it straight up to bounce the light. My first couple images look like the example you gave. then i directed it down a bit and got nice soft images.

DarkRider is spot on. your shutter is closing before all the light from the flash has a chance to hit the sensor. slow down! ;^)
