I have been thinking a lot about the work that goes into processing wedding and event photography and am thinking about offering myself to local photographers to do some post processing work for them. The question is would this idea be well recieved and how much and how should I charge for a project like this. I am only thinking about color correcting and removing of unwanted elements. If they want more then of course pay would change. Please help and let me know what you think.

Lots of (if not most) successful wedding/portrait/commercial photographers have people working for them who do that sort of stuff. If you're a busy photographer, it's not cost-effective to do it yourself.

How much is it worth in today's market? I don't know. But there's definitely a market for it. How can you tap into this market? Again, I don't know offhand. A good start would be if you, personally, know a photographer you can "volunteer" to do this for, gratis, and use the results to start a before-and-after portfolio you could use to drum up more work.

I think it is a good idea. I do it for the start up people around here.....that take alright pics but want them to pop a little more. I charge between 1.50-3.00 a pic. This is for portrait work...after the customer chooses which pic they want to get prints made of..etc.

I probably go about it the wrong way. I take a few photo's of theirs...off of their site.(myspace, facebook, whatever) Then I edit them..and e-mail it to them with my prices....also apologizing for using their images without permission.

I ALWAYS delete the photo's and edited photo's after I send them...and include that in the e-mail. I also include that the changes were done on a very small internet sized file...and much more detailed changes could come with the RAW file..or at least the original JPEG. I haven't gotten any negative reactions yet.

In my opinion, seeing how THEIR photo looks edited helps out a bit.

I think there's a market for it. I think you need to establish a body of work before figuring out how much to charge, because without it it's hard to establish how much your time is worth to you.

It's being done - //www.jaincotech.com/ so you could more or less copy their model and prices. I need this service, but 14 day turnaround won't work.
It takes me around 5 hours to go from CF card to proofs on the web..1000 images to 500 final ones. No PS, nothing fancy.
Jaincotech says 'as low as' 13c per image. Currently none of their pricing comes up, but it looked like it would run me $200 for them to do it all - select good/bad thru uploading to my proof site website, including the fed ex back and forth. I can get someone here to do it for $8-10 an hour and I get results within a day, not 14.

Something in between would be something I'd consider.
