This morning I was having some doughnuts and hot chocolate with my family at an overlook where you can see the Columbia River and parts of Portland. While we were there a dark plume of smoke formed across the way. Figuring it would be a fun adventure, we walked back to the car, got the camera, and drove across the bridge to see what the deal was. Turns out it was a three alarm fire where the Bugaboo Thermaseal Warehouse was engulfed in flame. We walked as close as we could avoiding people turning us back and then at the end I just used my professional looking camera and a "I belong here" look on my face, to get right up to the front lines. What fun. Here's a few snaps from the experience. Too bad I didn't get there in time to have flames still dancing about.

Good photojournalism. It's amazing how having a "professional looking camera" can get people to treat you differently. I'll need to remember that "I belong here" attitude. |
