So I am turning to you guys here at DPC. So, I got my new laptop (MacBook Pro) several weeks ago and have not been able to find my Canon software with Diital Photo Professional and the like. I do a lot of RAW conversion and have always used that and to me is very easy to use. I tried downloading the software from Canon's website, but it says I need the original disc.

My question is does anyone have any extra Canon software discs lying around? If so, that would help me tremendously!

For the record, I'm ready to do DPC full swing again now that life has finally settled a little and I now have a computer to work with. My wife had our baby six weeks ago and both baby and mom are doing very well. I should have some pictures in my portfolio very soon.

Thanks again guys.

Is it refusing the download without the original disk, or just refusing to install? I've upgraded DPP on my PC, but the earlier version was already installed when I did it. I'll go have a try on my wife's Mac and see what happens.

Congrats on being a new dad. However, those 2 am feedings really suck.

It appears the OSX files on Canon's site are an updater and not the complete software. I'm afraid I don't have a spare original disk.

Yeah, the software on the Canon site is just updater software. Thanks though. :)

If you are still stuck I can probably upload the disc to my web space so you can download it

Unfortunately, I think I need the disc image (ISO or whatever the other ones are) for it to work with OSX. Has anyone else done this before?

Are you having a problem burning the files to CD or installing?

I was able to burn the contents that were uploaded, but I think I need the disk image to burn a replica of the disk to be able to install to OSX. The contents of the disk contained the setup.exe, but OSX (I believe) doesn't run .exe, so I think I need the image (single file) to burn so that when I pop the disc in, it will open up the Mac installer.

I'm not too familiar with the way Macs run so I'm not sure. Image files are the way to go though.

Well, from what I know, the disc contains installers for both Windows and Mac OSX. I am confident that if someone were able to get a disk image that it would work.

Again, thanks for everyone's help, if anyone's able to upload a disc image, that would be awesome.

I wish I knew the work-around for Mac-based systems.

I recently had to fix my DPP and couldn't find my original CD.
The update download from Canon actually is the full version, but the installer looks for the CD to be in the tray and/or checks the Registry for certain keys. The way around the installer in Windows is to first back up your Registry, then run regedit.exe and make the following entries.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\DPP]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\EOS Utility]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\PhotoStitch]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\ZoomBrowser EX]

After that, save, close and run the download - it will see that Canon's software is/has been installed and away you go.

ETA: If someone is NOT familiar with or comfortable with making changes to the Registry, DON'T! You will hate life if you screw up.

A simple way to make these registry entries is to

1) Open notepad.exe
2) Copy/Paste in the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\DPP]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\EOS Utility]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\PhotoStitch]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\ZoomBrowser EX]

3) Save as Canon.reg
4) Double-Click the file and answer Yes when asked if you want to add the information to the registry.

Would anyone be able to upload the disk image on a website.

Or if someone knows a Mac equivalent workaround that works like the Windows fix.

Thanks in advance again.

I've been reading this expecting to see a solution - so let me add:
I lost my disk too and I called canon explaining things to the tech guy - he said there were copyright issues with posting a download for the software. I explained that I lost my CD and needed it for my laptop, the way it works on my PC (laptop is school issue) He said since the purchase was less than a year old (at that time) he could send me another CD. A new CD arrived a few days later.

Maybe you could call canon support, like I did?

Is there any compatibility issues with the Canon software on the Intel based Macs, or do they support both Intel and PPC?

Also, would DPP from any Canon Digital SLR work with my XTs RAW images, or are they camera specific?
07/20/2008 10:38:37 PM · #22
I haven't run into anybody that I know who even has a canon DSLR. I seriously don't know what happened to my disc, I think the disc gnomes took it because I have turned my apartment upside down.

Anyways, thanks again y'all.

I'm glad to see you got it working.

Now put it in a safe place and keep those gnomes away :)
