I know it's early...BUT...My Product shot is just hanging on...seems it is the first time I am a little worried..among all the arguments about what meets the Challenge..in another Thread...it is in my belief an actual Catalog shot (maybe not the best)...as I researched...lol...but all I needed was maybe a 5.4000...and it is weird, all the talk about it..it might not survive, as alot of the submissions are looking like ADS on the back of a glossy magazines...lol..and very good shots I might add...lol

Mine apparently is too addish. It is not doing nearly as well as I had thought. I may not make it through this round.

We don't have averages for this week yet. . . The voters understand this and are just trying to keep our scores from dragging our averages up before they get pulled! :)

Trust me, our scores are going to rocket into the mid sixes after the averages get pulled! (Crossing fingers here!)

Ha! Usually it doesn't stop me, either. But this challenge has pushed me to think of things that'll do well here (or at least beat 5.7). That's a good thing and a bad thing, because I can think of lots of out-of-the-box or humorous-but-not-well-shot immovable concepts. But I don't want to enter them during this tourney. Whereas I can also think of several relatively easy-to-shoot-but-pretty-soulless-well-scoring shallow DOF shots.

I hear ya! This has been a fun and wild ride, hasn't it? I think the real beauty of this side challenge has been to push myself to enter every single week, no matter what.

Has this made me enter some shots I would have never gone with? Yeah!

Have I pushed myself creatively? Yep!

Do I feel that I have sacrificed my "artistic integrity" in order to win votes?

hmmmmm. . . not nearly as much as I would have thought.

When I entered this side challenge, I figured that I would have to do exactly that. As the challenge continued, I started finding out that I was stepping outside of my normal comfort zone with the shots that I entered. (I never would have entered the shot I did in the FS, and it placed 16th! My current Product Shot was a last minute thing that I would have just blown off if not for this side challenge, and it might get me through to the next week with a bit of luck. [And a vote scrub or two! :) ])

To make a long (rambling) post (finally) come to an end, I think that I have actually grown as an 'artist' because of this side challenge. I have pushed my limits and (in a couple of instances, at least) grown past them.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's ok to shoot what you consider to be a "relatively easy-to-shoot-but-pretty-soulless-well-scoring shallow DOF shot" if (and only if) you still push yourself and try to learn something from the shoot. Put your vision in the shot and we can all learn something!

Of course it's possible that I just need another beer. :)

I'm with Ya...I took June & July off, if it wasn't for the commitment in the FS I might not had entered at all. Since this side tourney I've been more active in the forums, posted my version of a wedding shot. Made some comments. (need to work on that one). Voted on a lot challenges I wasn't in. It's just been a Fun experience.
