I predict my scores are about to start sucking more than ever. |
YAY!! (about the zone lens, not so much the sucking) |

Don, your post left me speechless. Thank you ever so kindly for your words - really quite wonderful, and if I may say so, rather fitting. Pleased to see it came across pretty much the way I wanted it to. And I must also thank Karen again - I really was quite flabbergasted to find she'd not only purchased the book, but brought it with her to have me sign it when we met in DC. Blew me away, actually. And Karen, I should have annotated it with the fact you're the first person not directly related to me to have a copy. That's pretty darn cool! |
You're quite welcome, Deb, and I completely agree with Don's assessment of your book, couldn't say it better. |

Some of you will know I have been out of sorts and not taking any photos lately with my new camera. That has also been one of the reasons why I have not been around much lately, but continue to try and catch up with the news here in this 'WATCH' thread, when I can.
Here are the two threads about that.
FLOWERS for shez............

I did get out with the camera today and earlier tonight. Take a look at the "Big Red Ball" rolling through Chicago, and the views along the Roosevelt St bridge and the planetarium.
Here's my favorites from the album:

What is the story behind the Big Red Ball? Rather intriguing!
And for those entering the Long Exposure Minimal Editing challenge:
"I just about made an "oops", then re-read the rules. Sharpening is only "sharpen" - nothing customizable like smart sharpen or USM! You may: sharpen your entry using your editing software’s “sharpen” or equivalent option. The use of customizable sharpening tools, such as Unsharp Mask, is not allowed."
Just a heads up! So.... open your jpeg (and only jpeg - no RAW); sharpen; resize; submit. Gotta love that!

I agree; sharpening after resizing had a much better effect. |

I've been AWOL from TS HQ lately - my apologies! It has been a bit of a hectic month, to say the least. At the end of August Peter and I drove my Mum down to near Lands End at the tip of Cornwall in order that she could visit relatives; we stayed for a week and had a lovely time (photos to follow), and left Mum with a First Class ticket booked on the straight through train 10 days later. Unfortunately we had only been back 5 days (I could only take a week's leave from work - another story, and not one I will depress you with...) when I got a phone call from my Uncle to say Mum had been taken into hospital in Truro with chest pains and breathing difficulties. At the hospital she was forced to admit she had a fall a few days earlier - the bruising is pretty dramatic - although after tests that was found to be a red herring and in fact she had pleurisy, unpleasant but certainly a lesser evil than a heart attack and she was discharges after two nights! Needless to say, she was hardly in a fit state to travel home by train, so it was another 8 hour drive down to Cornwall, and 8 hours back to collect her. I have been visiting her every day, and even had to help her bathing and to wash her hair, but she is now slowly on the mend.
Work has been miserable, and is likely to continue to be so for the foreseeable future, but at least it (just) pays the mortgage. Daughter still doesn't have a job, and I find myself resenting arriving home from work and finding her still in pyjamas, and no housework of any sort done. I am worried, and angry in equal measure - but I can't wouldn't throw her out on to the streets... It has, though, been three steps forward, two back, so I keep reminding myself that things are better than they were a year ago.
More positively the kittens, or young cats as I guess they are now, are gorgeous, and really good company. They went for their chops and ops on Wednesday, and had recovered within a day! Again, photos to be posted shortly (just for Deb). Two weeks ago I joined a gym and have been swimming 6 times, worked out twice, and this evening went to Pilates for the first time. I desperately need to lose some weight, but I suspect the greatest benefit will be an overall improvement in my general sense of well being.
Blimey, my posts are usually one-liners - this is a bit of stream of consciousness, but I know fellow TSers will bear with me! |

Sara, dear, lovely to hear from you even though it isn't all cheery stuff. Maybe especially that it isn't all cheery stuff, since that's the kind of stuff one needs to vent from time to time, yes? Very glad to hear your Mum is doing better! And definitely glad to hear the cats have rebounded nicely from their surgeries. Good on you with the gym! It really does improve one's outlook. I need to get back out on my bike. Daylight's getting shorter every day.... Perhaps I should also discover things one can do in a gym, though I suspect swimming isn't in my repetoire... never have been fond of that.
I'm definitely looking forward to the pics from Cornwall and of the cats, so get 'em posted when you can!
That was quick! :-)

So at this age in my life I'm going back to school. Starting next week I'm taking a Photography class, and I also was going to take a Photoshop Elements class, but they just called and said not enough people for the class and it was cancelled :( That was the one that I was looking foreward to. They will have it in the winter so hopefully more people will take it. Wish me luck in the Photograpy class I think I'll need it. |
