I was going with meh-leh-thee-a, but I like Deb's mel-eh-THIE-a, it kinda sounds Ancient Greek-ish...

My pronunciation sounds Medievalish... like she's trapped in a castle...

That's me and Deb, that is - she makes a book and I make brown ribbons...

I will stick with mel-eh-THIE-a, honey, it's more mellifluous.

You know, we could just go with "Deb"... :-)

I'm proud to say I asked Deb at the airport, and I pronounced it the way she did. :)

BTW, the "th" is hard, as in "thing," as opposed to soft, as in "this."

Who's Deb?

Don't forget there's also Deb Sterner, while we're on the subject of Debs. And now for something completely different - a couple of TS'ers (and one honorary):

My cockney wroots say melleffeehya.

Talking like that it's probably just as well that roots are underground.

Hello everyone, I know that I haven't been to active lately and I apologize to my fellow team members on , I will pick things up soon. There are so many things going on in our lives right now it has kept me from my camera :( but I will make the time and contribute to our team as before.

Here are some shots for NikonJeb and everyone else as well :) but Jeb should understand.

I took some long exposure shots, then after I uploaded realized I shot them in raw and they have to be jpeg's. LOL! Back to the drawing board. At least I got an entry for "Risk" today.

For those with the capability to do so, set the camera to shoot RAW + jpeg. Always nice to have the RAW in case you get a keeper. :-) Just remember to use the jpeg for the challenge - resize and sharpen only!!

I'm going to change mine now. I don't know why I wasn't doing it in the first place.

Nice idea, but check your individual camera's settings....

With my D70s if I shoot in both, I only have the option of the lowest image quality jpeg setting.

It may be different on more expensive cameras, but my "Entry Level" DSLR only has the one RAW + Basic setting.

My Trip to the Desert, by Melethia

a posthumous book review.

The most unpretentious title ever. Deb has this uncanny ability to smirk and be sincere at the same time, and this title is a great example. You might think of it as the title you pick when you can't think of a title, but really it's a very deliberate choice, and fits the tone and goals of the book perfectly. Deb is not out to sensationalize her experience, quite the opposite. She demonstrates an ability to be herself no matter where she is, which brings the world down to her level, and by extension, down to ours.

This does not mean that she makes everything ordinary, because she always finds beauty in her world, but she makes us feel like the same beauty is available in our own backyards, if we just open our eyes to it. That makes this book much more fulfilling and engaging than a mere travelogue.

Oh, and the pictures are fantastic. Some are in her online portfolio, but you need to see them here, laid out in a breathtaking spread (she has an amazing knack for overlapping photos to great effect). Many of her pictures suit themselves to print more than a computer screen. I think subtlety tends to work better in print. Her commentary is as unpretentious as her title, but then when you get to the last page you realize she has tricked you into reading a poem.

Two thumbs up!

Hey - an ampersand AND elipseseses... I never know a) how to spell that, or b) when to stop

Read about your thyroid troubles - got a few pieces of wisdom to add to those you've received in the other thread: 1) Keep pestering the fine medical folks, and remember that you know you better than they do. 2) From what I've seen of you from here, you're one heckuva fighter. You'll beat this into submission with style, I'm quite sure. And if all else fails, go outside (so as not to worry the cats too much) and scream your favorite four letter word at the top of your lungs. May not actually have medicinal powers, but does tend to make one feel better at times. And keep posting here (and the other thread). Seems DPCers are quite the supportive bunch!

And speaking of supportive...

Don, your post left me speechless. Thank you ever so kindly for your words - really quite wonderful, and if I may say so, rather fitting. Pleased to see it came across pretty much the way I wanted it to. And I must also thank Karen again - I really was quite flabbergasted to find she'd not only purchased the book, but brought it with her to have me sign it when we met in DC. Blew me away, actually. And Karen, I should have annotated it with the fact you're the first person not directly related to me to have a copy. That's pretty darn cool!

:(

I forgot my camera at my in-laws place last Saturday. It's safe there, but I don't know when we'll be back again.

My apologies for being absent lately, I started a new job and it's cutting severely into my photo taking time and leaving me too tired to care, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I'm also in a photography funk, again/still but thanks to krnodiland her gorgeous blurry photos I'm now waiting impatiently for my very own zone lens to arrive. I predict my scores are about to start sucking more than ever.
