You do NOT want my opinion at this point.

G'night all!

hmmmm. My horses entry (love it or hate it) had something like 46 votes of 3 or less. However I only received 15 comments during the challenge, and of those 3 or 4 were supportive.

So by the DPC guidelines of voting, I should have recieved an additional 34 comments which I did not receive. When is SC going to wake up and smell the coffee that they will have to make it mandatory to leave comments if your vote is 3 or less? A minimum 25 characters of comment perhaps, and having what they voted be automatically shown next to the comment.

I know that lots of folks will then say that "4 will be the new 1" but that is not true because there will be legitimate scores of 4 out there. At least if this was done people would have to do a little bit of work to "vote down" and image they do not like, and be held responsible for how they voted.

I have no problem with people that think my entry was dnmc, even if I do not agree with them they have a right to their own opinion, but if you vote down an entry at least have the backbone to abide by the "voting rules" set out by dpc and tell the person why.

Well, you see, Timmie - sorry, Ernie - it doesn't require a lot of eloquence to compose a comment with a little more substance than dnmc. 'Horses eat hay' might be an example.

The trouble is, though, that once even such an atom, or dare I say seed corn, of discursive relativity has lodged itself within the cognitive ramparts of the poor soul who is about to make the comment, might they then not be visited by doubts as to absolute irrelevance of the illustration to the given subject?

Are you ready for the responsibility of changing people's perception?

It may be a shoehorn and it may be less than inspired in terms of word play, but your photo is such an excellent dynamic illustration of mechanical horsepower, in my totally arrogant opinion, that you needn't trouble yourself with the sights and sounds of mealy-mouthed dissenters.

Ernie, I loved your outside the box thinking with this challenge and thus voted accordingly. Dude I gave you a seven.

I love this comment and only wish that others would take the time that F-StopBlues did.

Thanks Max. :)

Like I said in my post, I am fine with others not agreeing with me...that is all good. I just wish that the powers that be would actually force people to think when they are voting an image down by abiding by the voting guidlines. (making them comment when voting 3 or less)

BTW that horse finish is my worst ever, LOL. Missed the brown by a couple of spots.

My FS is on track to be one of my worst ever as well, so I am proving my suckness for the team. :) :)

Dude, you HAVE to know that you're going to get spanked when you go outside the box like that.

Truly? You should have had a picture of just the engine for where you were going.

It really wasn't unfair, and you got exactly the kind of reaction from the voters that you should have expected by this point.

You're no ingenue here, Ernie.....you *HAD* to know that was too clever for the staid voting sector.

You're fighting an uphill battle on the comments thing. For whatever reason, if people don't want to comment, they won't....and yes, in that instance, people WILL give you a 4 to avoid making a comment. So you STILL won't get what you want.

People don't want either to hurt others' feelings, or get scathing PMs by leaving critical comments in all too many cases.

I'm not sure why you're letting some of this stuff bother you so much. You do good work; your profile page upholds that, and next week you really won't care that you got slapped around.

I do understand frustration.....I almost quit DPC once or twice in the past 6-9 months, but then I realized that I'm doing this to have fun and improve my skills and confidence.......and challenges don't really do that.....it's the side challenges, the camaraderie with the people who become your extended family here in the forums, and the real life get togethers and relationships that you didn't have before you got here.

Hey, I enjoy the heck out of your work, you seem most knowledgeable and fun, and you're an asset to TS. It's all good!

Here's a funny thought......I pulled up to a stoplight after dinner, looked at the car beside me, and saw [thumb]717649[/thumb]

How can you look at that goofy thing and NOT smile?

I agree with you Ernie and I would have hoped for the same thing for my abstract B&W, I'm just tanking with that one and just might pick up the brown. To date I'm still sitting at 4.4 and the best comment I received said they left no vote :(

I wonder why they left no vote, could it be that my image moved them so much that they didn't think that a 10 did it any justice?? There is always the flip side to that as well, my image was so bad they were moved to tears and out of their frustration for having to view such tripe they could not bring themselves to give it even a one, for even that would have been to kind and we all remember what our Mothers taught us "If you can't say anything nice, don't vote"

I'm just can't wait to see how many 3,2,and 1's I got for this one, I only have seven comments and one said they didn't vote, so if my math is right and everything is right with the world and everyone followed the voting protocol I should have six scores below four. I'm not sure how they will break down, that will be the exciting part :)~
