WD40 has many uses...But DON'T DON'T DON'T spray it on a lens. PLEASE!
08/05/2008 10:56:54 PM · #402
How expensive is this lens? Can it be found inexpensively on ebay? If it is an expensive one you will need to get it fixed professionally. If it is not an expensive one then you have nothing to lose to messing with it, and then if it does not work you can buy one on ebay.

I do agree with DarkRider though, WD40 can eat plastic...not really what you want.

I'm thinking WD40, since the lens barrel doesn't move though it should.

Duct tape is for things that move when they shouldn't.

Kashi's right, and I wasn't really expecting to be taken seriously, lol!

But seriously, I have heard of wide rubber bands coming in handy for situations involvong lens barrels, so should you get it moving again, maybe try a RB to stabilize barrel?

Oh shoot... runs to go rip off the duct tape

Use fluid film, it works much, much better and water is not the catalyst in this product. It doesn't dry out like WD40 does.

EXPENSIVE... too expensive for me to run and get another one... on a good day it would be $600 (which is expensive by my tastes). I am betting that repairs are gonna be close to $200 IF I AM LUCKY! So here I had just started helping in one of our school offices part-time for the next couple of weeks and thought - cool extra $$ to spend on camera stuff and other necessities... grrrr

But I am going to get it repaired for sure because I truly do adore the lens. I think I am in love with it lol.

You guys are funny btw with all your homemade solutions lol. And I did NOT use the WD40... the duct tape however... hmmmm ... hehe

Michelle, is it true love or do you just like the ZOOM feature that much that you think it's love??

Thanks Michelle.

I followed your advise and I am now proud owner of a score of 4.4! lmao

Oh well. I just do not understand this place. I don't think I will ever win another ribbon, and my shots are not artsy enough to get noticed in any other way.

I think I will stick to sports shots.

Crap crap crap crap crap! Woodies and duckies? are you serious? I have never actually seen a "woodie" anywhere so I wonder if they even have them here in Canada? (not that I would want one anyways)

Why pick the two most annoying things on DPC (or at least in the top 5) and have them as challenges AT THE SAME TIME! grrrrrrrrrrrr
08/06/2008 04:39:03 AM · #413
In all honesty, bar the monthly Free Study, not one of this weeks challenges appeals in any way, shape or form.

Ernie, 4.4 is really quite impressive!

Ernie, get over it.....you do nice work.

I figured out something about my style that appeals to the voters, yet I don't like that particular technique as well as a lot of my other work that sells well, but gets spanked here.

Just have fun with what it is, quit entering challenges for a while if they make you nuts, and have fun in a side project.

Yeah, I might point out that all but two of your last ten scores showing are over 6.

OHMIGAWSH!!!!

I have to comment based on a 5.8649??????

I actually liked this a lot......it only took a few minutes to process.

I got more two more Monet corollaries in the comments.....I'm just bowled over by how often I hear that! WOO HOO!!!

I appear to have touched on a technique that appeals.....

I do notice that this image is sensitive to monitor calibration......it's definitely too dark on my monitor at work.

I'll get to my commenting today!

Thanks for the referral, Max. Now get your clothes back on, I think I have another victim err, client...and with all this talk about wodies and duckies I think I'll be quite busy!

Ernie - I've found that first voters don't have a sense of humor. And we can leave it at that. It will go up and you will finish over 5 for sure.

Okay - I know I'm testy today.
I'm PMS'ing, and I'm on tenterhooks waiting to hear about that job.

So, I'm likely over-reacting here. In fact, I know I am, but I'm choosing to vent here anyhow.

How is "cute" a helpful, constructive, or otherwise worthy comment ?

Please flame me now.

FWIW - the photo in question is sitting at a fairly cute 5.4 in score.

Thanks for covering for me.

I think a Woody/Ducky challenge is just what I need to get my camera mojo back. Most of my own favorite pictures are woody shots. I love those guys!

PMS sucks, appropriately I guess, for this thread.

"Cute" is feedback, pure and simple; someone gave you a reaction, which is better than none at all. [and I say this, confident you cannot reach through your monitor and throttle me in some pms-induced rage ;) ]

Fingers crossed for you about getting that job...
