The light will not be as diffuse, but you don't "need" it.

Make one.

Without it you'll gain a stop or maybe 2 but less diffuse will your light be.

how do I make one? What material to use?

Without it ... the center of your softbox will be hotter than the outside edges. This means that the outside edge of your softbox won't be as bright as the center (markedly so). And it also means you will see specular highlights on your subject.

Go to a Fabricville ( they sell all kinds of linen/materials for making dresses and stuff) and tell the lady what you want, she'll find it.

Don't know where you live but look for stores that sell linen in bulk.

oh well, I guess I have to use my GIANT Foldable softbox for highkey with one light aimed at the background and a reflector on the other side of the model...

Wow, this guy has the same problem. Perhaps you two can work together and come up with a solution. ;)
