Thought I would post this in case any of you music producing types out there might want some music to start with. I scanned it from a Girl Guide music book that I have.

Much appreciated - it is hard to learn a tune from listening to a few people singing when they all sing it a bit differently.
Edited typo

Just screwing around but I did it in a reggae style. I will help with the audio if you want. I am doing a guitar solo over the top of it as well just for kicks I will post that link later...

:-D
ETA: It is not in the same key as the sheet music it is in the key of the commercial C# I think.

tell you what, would this be easier, if all the singers sang the whole song then your person could just clip out what lines he wants with them singing? and what key would you want it in |

Nope you need to sing over a backing track that way all will be in key.
And if everyone can sing in the key of the commercial then that should be the key. Just to keep it simple.

As long as it can shift individual notes different amounts, it'll be great!

Well this is getting a bit more complex than I would think it should. Singing in key? Are we auditioning for American Idol? Did anyone see any of the Discovery channel versions? Was Stephen Hawking on key? (sounded pitchy to me - maybe even a bit karaoke).
Why can't we just have people pick a line or two or however many we need, have them record it - singing or just reading it - and submit them all to whoever will be compiling it with background music? If they want to submit 2 or 3 variations, fine - just more work for the producer (or mixer or whatever they call him/her in the biz). It worked very well with the Christmas project even with some of the recording quality being real crappy.
Anyone familiar with K.I.S.S. (not the rock band). ;-) The more complicated it gets the more likely it will never get done. |

From the music sample we can do this with 9 images per verse, 5 'sencic' and 4 'singer-solo'
The number of verse-chrous will determine lenght.
I think it would be great if we could get DPC celebs for the singer soloists.
First nomination would be our God-Father Langdon, therefore we need a CIA abduction squad.
Joey and Mannie come to mind also.
I'll open the floor for other nominations.
The senics can be what ever we want, worked into rhyming verses.
For my own contribution, I would need something that rhymes with Fog.
(bog, clague, clog, cog, dague, dog, flog, fogg, frog, frogg, frogge, grogg, haag, haug, hog, hogg, hogge, jog, krog, lague, log, maag, mogg, og, ogg, plog, pog, prague, rog, rogge, skog, slog, smog, tague, waag, zaugg, zogg )
or variations :)

Another thought..
Since there are a few of us that have expressed musical aspirations, eg Patrick, possibly we can use instrumentals over a quick montage for intro, bridge and fade out. |

With regards to Artroflmao's post on page 1 which compiles the song lyric suggestions from the other thread, it's good when just mentioning content of DPC BUT where are the lines that give you the 'cultural experience' of DPC?!?!?!?!
No mention of Blue Ribbons, DNMC, SC, update button or Trolls!?!?!?!?!
Here are just some random lines that could be sprinkled liberally in the song.
I love Blue Ribbons
I love DNMC (sung sarcastically of course)
I love the Update button
I love red eye rollover nights
I love the forums
I love the Site Council
I love the !@#$-ing trolls

Analyzing the rhyme scheme and some help from the hubby how about this added stanza :-)

of course you could put in a bleep for the last line like they do in the radio stadions. I feel it would capture the frustrations one feels when they have been hit with a 1. :-)

Okay so there are a lot of things to think about lets take this systematically first thing will be deciding the length of the song ie how many verses. Once that is settled we can make the backing track. So final decision on how many verses is? |

Sounds like we have a few different camps here - people have different ideas on how to pull this off.
If it gets too hard to peacefully figure out the best way, how about we make 2 or more versions of it (by whoever wants to take this on), then in the end we pick the best one? |

Btw, some contributions have overlooked that the song uses rhyme.
How did a simple, fun thread become a production number, anyway? |

Linda, thank you for your unique contribution.
I am very glad we don't have to rhyme it.
Also, you will remember that you will need to contribute your vocalization of the submitted line once we establish the procedure.
Edit: I think you need another syllable.

Ok - here's where I am at on this project - I think we have more than enough lyrics to put the whole song together. I am not sure what the final line count will be, but I think it would be enough to produce a 5 minute video/slideshow - that seems reasonable to me. I volunteered to compile the lyrics and put out the final draft and then let folks volunteer to do a line or two until they are filled up. The person doing the line should also be submitting an image for that line. It doesn't have to be that person's image, but permission by the owner will be required. We'll just continue to solicit volunteers for voices and images until all lines are filled with both. I'll start a thread for that process when I finish the lyrics.
So my final deliverables would be the lyrics with a username and image id assigned to each line. After that is complete, the recording logistics are up to Jammur and he can start a new thread (and kill this one off) to organize that process.
Is that a reasonable plan?
On another note:

Assuming that is the parallel to the conversation of the 2 astronauts at the beginning of the DC commercial, I think it would be really cool to have that part produced in a video using some cool cinematic style or something - like 2 DPCers in some scenic environment with their cameras - they say the lines and then point their cameras and a shutter sound transitions to the first photo and verse and the music begins. Thoughts?
