We layered them too... To smash with a rock. (dad wouldn't let use the hammer since the propane tank incident)
We'd have more fun looking for the ones that didn't go off....

Man I really hate this but I actually agree with both you and GeneralIE on this one. I think anyone considering owning a Gun needs to take a Gun safety class.

In Michigan, I believe it's a requirement for all guns. I know it is for a handgun and there's even more training should you want a CCW permit.

No, the place I think coronamv thinks I'll end up after the Rapture ... I've already been (briefly) to Vermont -- saw maple syrup being harvested and made -- more like Heaven then :-)

Missed me! BANG!!!! wait, gotta reload- dang this one shot wonder!!!

LOL! This reminds me of the war games in our culdesac - they actually would result in real fights when some of the participants claimed they could dodge bullets. ...in fact that's why I built the gokart tank out of 3/4 inch plywood with holes cutout for the machine guns. Ahhhhhh memories! And imagine - none of us were gunned down by a cop!

hah! that will be in vain compared to the "anti wooden tank land-mines 2000" i invented! :P

Too bad they can't ban real guns. A Washington D.C. law banning handguns was just struck down by the Supreme Court. And Florida just passed a law allowing people to bring a gun to work as long as they leave it in the car. A Disney employee was fired last week for bringing his gun to work, so now he is suing Disney because Florida law allows it.
I guess someone needs to challenge the ban on toy guns to get it overturned. What a crazy society we live in.

Well, I work at AirsoftCQB in Northern Virginia, and we sell these "Toy guns" in question.

Should they be banned? No.

Should people in general be taught more about guns, and gun safety in general so they understand what they are doing? Absolutely.

No, it's really not too bad.

I don't really have a problem with handguns. We own a .22 pfftlolmao but I plan to buy something a bit larger, along with concealed permit, training, a lot of range practice, etc. I don't think guns are unsafe, it is very rare they go off on their own.

I do however believe people are unsafe. They pick up a gun without a clue as to what they are doing. The same type of people speed by me at 90 on the freeway while on cellphones. If anyone bans anything it should be idiots, just issue a damned IQ test or something and ship everyone below the "fire=hot" level to some island or something...

I don't believe a ban on firearms would work that well in the US anyway, too many leaks, the criminals would keep their guns and would know they cannot be legally shot at even in self defense, they would eat that up.

As for the OP and banning toy guns. I am on the fence about banning toy guns. I think it is more an issue of parenting and teaching kids not to run around pointing them at people, out cars, at police, etc. I think at the same time police need to ease off a bit with shooting at kids that are holding "something". I think I heard in the news last year a teen was shot for holding a cellphone.

As for violence, I honestly believe violence is part of mother nature and everything contained. Even creatures as small as ants will defend themselves if provoked. I think as a free thinking species we have the potential to overcome these "primitive" feelings, however I don't believe tv, toys, rock music, and video games are the problem at all.

Violence will continue for as long as their are classes of people, income, resources, land. and as long as people believe they are better or more important than someone they do not agree with. If we ever get to a point where resources are equally shared and people see even the most criminal monster as just another person but with severe problems, then I think we might be able to work on that utopia, but looking at the world today I don't think it will be in any of our lifetimes.

Violence isn't something that can be washed away, covered up, or controlled. It is a survival instinct. It will pose a problem for exactly as long as it needs to which I imagine will be a very very long time. Trying to remove it by force will be no better than declawing a cat.

Ironic that this conversation is going on, as this morning I open my newspaper to see a story about a young man that is going to prison for a parole violation. They found two toy, orange barreled, plastic pellet guns at the residence he was staying at. WTF?
Sad, sad story here.

my husband was a cop in south africa for 12 years, he knows guns. he lived and worked in a war zone for 7 years. he was a crack shot and kept an arsenal under his bed (from grenades to machine guns, with anything you can think of in between)

so he has a great deal of experience with guns.

the only 'toy guns' we have in the house, and will ever have, are the super soaker water guns. i don't like 'realistic' gun toys, but he hates them. i figure he knows what he's talking about.

(and, just for those who don't know, and want to go off on damned south african bigots, s.a. had national service - anyone who's over thirty and male will have served in the forces there. no choice)

I think they should ban toy cameras. It encourages kids to get involved in an addicting and expensive habit where they are always seeking that perfect moment which really does not exist. It's kind of like crack.

You know.... I am in the no guns for anyone camp - especially the renta & local cops (flame suit on) but that is just F* stupid!! Always 2 sides, but if that is the real case there is no way the kid should be locked up. Who in f* name would add toy guns to a violation.

One of the more painful and ironic images I have seen came in the newspaper several years ago. It was of a grieving mother placing her 8 yr. old son's favorite toy gun on top of his casket.

He was killed in a random drive-by.

Go figure!

"Do you think they should be banned?"

Of course not, how else do you train a child in safe firearms use? My daughter will get a rubber pellet gun in a few years. I will teach her to use it as if it were a real firearm. If I see her point it at any living thing. I will talk with correct her.

Then as she shows growth and maturity on the matter, I will get her a BB gun. When she is older if she's shown her maturity I will get her a .22 rifle.

When I was younger my father taught me that you did not point a firearm, even a play one at another person. Granted, I do think that Super Soakers are a great design in that they do not appear to be like any firearm available. As such, they do not carry that aspect of training I think other such firearm toys do.

:)

Why is that? Good thing the owner didn't shoot at you with a gun - yes. That'd be inappropriate...

But heck, if he waved a shotgun, I am sure three kids would never do the Duke boy slide across anyone else's vehicle ever again. Nor cause any more property damage.

Actually the face plant, skinned knees and arms were more than enough to never do it again. As for the car, it was fine. He even told my parents so when he showed up at our door a few hours later (hazards of growing up in a small town). Of course he also pointed out that if he caught us doing it again he would hang us upside down from the tree in his front yard. My dad told him he'd expect no less.

I wonder how they got the hood of the General Lee so dang slick.

Granted, us kids did a lot of stupid stuff. Like jumping out of a moving truck. Did that once, and I almost succeeded....however, I improperly counted how much distance I'd need to counteract my momentum. And ran out of distance before I hit a parked car.

Kind of funny, most of my accidents have involved parked cars. My one driving accident was a parked car. The four times I was hit were while I was parked. And of course, hitting the parked car when I jumped out of the truck.
