Should I crop more of the bottom or just discard the photo altogether?

I think I'd crop a little off the bottom, and maybe also off of the right side so that stump isn't showing. Otherwise it's kind of interesting. Maybe also increase the brightness if possible so just a tiny bit of detail begins to show in the black area? |

Cropping from the bottom so the transition from dark to sky is at the bottom 1/3 line really improves the shot. A little more contrast in the sky would help as well.
Just for fun I also tried converting to a sepia (actually a bronze quadtone) and adding 3.2% gaussian noise; the results are pleasing, but I don't know if this is keeping with your vision for this shot.
I do think there are several possible ways you could work with this shot, it's definitely not a throw-away.

I agree with Chris about trying bring out a breath of detail. I'd wish for a little more sky above the tallest tree and less flat flack at bottom (less than a vertical third). I do like the inclusion of the stump (right horizon). It is, IMHO, the only true variant in the image.

Alright thanks for the input. I'll try to improve the photo a bit.

Yeah, I wish I could take the shot over again with more sky in it, but that won't be possible. :-(
