So here I am at the end of a 2 month stay in China, ready to return home to the U.S. with loads of fake Nike, Puma, and Lacoste merchandise that I've purchased as gifts for friends. I've heard different people say different things about how strict U.S. customs is with this kind of stuff; so my question is, how likely is it that I will run into trouble while entering with all that stuff? Also, what is their policy regarding bringing in bottled liquor?

Likely is the word. And since I live in NYC, I can tell you that in this city there have been a number of crackdowns on shops and stalls selling fake goods in the recent months. I mean large scale police operations. I would not advise you to bring items of that nature through US customs.

Mail it to yourself.

But it would still have to go through Customs, or at least a postal inspection.

Put yourself in Nike, Puma, Lacoste, etc. place. How would you feel if someone stole or duplicated your picts., or anything else you produced, and then smuggled them for personal use. As far as I'm concerned, you'd be a crook or worse, a pirate. Pirates should be hung from the nearest yard arme.

hmm I just checked UPS/Fedex, it costs way too much money to ship it over...so much that it would defeat the purpose of buying cheap goods lol.

I know here in Canada you can bring a limited amount of stuff from another country. Usually you can bring more stuff if you stay longer. I don't think the fact that it is fake would be a problem but the amount you bringing in. When I came back from Thailand I brought all kind of stuff back but the market value was under an x amount of dollars so it was ok. Try to find the US custom website and you will have all the info there.

Ok I will check the customs website when I get a chance.
When you say a X dollar value, do you mean as in if you exceed the value, they will charge fees, or they won't let you bring them in at all?

When I went wandering, I would from time to time ship home stuff through re-shippers. Small scale exporters will hire out a shipping container, fill it with their stuff, and find folks who are looking to get their stuff home cheap. Sometimes it will be kept somewhere for you to pick it up, sometimes you package it to be dropped at a post box when it gets stateside. It will take months to get to you, but it is cheap and often more reliable than the local mail system. Ask around at sellers of handicrafts or at a university where students ship their worldy goods home. And yes it will go through inspection, but since it will be in with a bunch of highly varied goods and personal posessions, the fine toothed comb is unlikey to be used.

You pay a small percentage tax if you exceed the maximum dollar value, $800.00 i belive, and something like 750ml of hard alcohol. Twice I have voenteered that i needed to pay overage fees after being out of the country for a while, last time we bought back a case of wine, we were sent up to pay our fees and got sent over to a much much shorter line after that, best $12 I ever spent at an airport.

If you are bringing in contraband, be they cuban cigars, pirated shirts or illegal cheese( yes I admit guilt, I cant help myself around a really dangerous French cheese) make then easy to over look, pull off the cigar bands, ruck up the shirts so they look worn, put the cheese in your dirty laundry. The guys from customs won't be fooled, but make it easier for them to overlook your transgresions.

Usually you have to fill a costume form when you enter a country and on it you have to mark what you brought back. Lets say you can bring 400$ of stuff back and you declare 600$, you will be charged taxes on the remaining 200$.
Check of the right amounts.. cause those are just bogus numbers
