This got hammered in the June FS as everyone said...very flip...Out of focus, BUT there is focus on the face and the front of the shot and the rest is intentionally out of focus, but did anyone look long enough to even notice? It actually draws you to the face, but I don't think most looked that long.
Just curious...I obviously missed the mark totally, but only two of the comments even offered suggestions...the rest seemed like there was a .5 second viewing. AND...I still didn't get the brown...two others had lower scores, lol!

Can you kind of tell what I was going for? I swear to God my eye sight is getting worse and worse.
Thanks Judi...oh, based on the comment, how do you figure it if you are using the macro function?? I screwed up all the way around and it was so dang dark back there, but wasn't sure that 1/50 was going to kill it that bad. I was in such a hurry to get the shot before he ran (and he didn't).

You don't need more than 1 or 2 seconds to understand that the focus is what kills this shot. You may have focused on his head in your viewfinder but you moved and most probably he did too, hence the blurry image. The fact the head is a wee bit more focused doesn't make this shot worthy of it being labeled a good portrait of this little critter. The overall first impression is...blur, and the more experienced photogs here will spot that within a nanosecond. ;\

A tripod would help tremendously in these situations. Or just steady the camera with a log, branch, anything and put it on timer so you know you won't be the reason for the camera shake.

If you notice the leaves near his head, they look more sharp. That tells me he's the one who was moving, more so than yourself. I'm also sure that when you looked at this shot through your LCD screen it looked great AND in focus. It's happened to me many times and still does.

Better for sure!! No tweaking makes me think more detail and a bit sharper focus could have been gotten out of that one. I hate that for you kat!

Hugs back!
