I'm shattered! My entry is going to totally bomb out because I have not callibrated my monitor! It looked perfect on mine, but I was horrified when I checked on my husbands' monitor this morning and on my work monitor later. Oh dear, oh dear! Suggestions please for callibration software as I don't have a clue! Obviously....LOL

Don't feel too bad. Mine's bombing as well. Except that I knew it would.

I would start a new thread and focus on your question, so that members will walk in to help.
The current thread format is only impressing those that want to see a rant because of how you are advertising your message.

Actually, I've just done a search on past threads and there seems to be loads of info on calibration software so I'll browse the comments first.

I think Horse is right. I totally overlooked your request for help and just read the rant. Do you have any calibration software or devices?

Sorry about delay in reply yospiff. Dinner time :-)
I don't have any calibration devices yet. I'll probably have to wait till next month as I've just spoiled myself with Photoshop CS3 but I've been looking at Colorvision Spyder2Pro on the internet tonight and it seems quite good. I'm not too sure about Huey Pro LVicari. Still reading the reviews, lol.
I found a website though that helps with basic tests i.e. the different shades of white and black and gamma setting, etc. According to these basic tests, my monitor is not perfect but not as bad as I thought. My husbands monitor, on the other hand, is really bad as the different shades on the white setting were barely visible. I suspect my work monitor is just as bad too, so I was a bit relieved.
I noticed a few photographs in the challenge which were quite similar to mine and they also looked fine on my monitor, but terrible on my husband's. Maybe there is hope for my entry yet! :-) |
