We love driving around Vermont finding all the quirky houses and buildings. One thing that always gets us is the "Vermont Window" - a standard up and down sliding window cocked at an angle and placed along the angled roofline.
Here's a couple of examples that we spotted this weekend, but there were tens of them...
So, what do you call these windows in your neck of the woods (other than 'very cool and quirky')?
And finally, show us your "Vermont Windows"... |

As I'm in New Hampshire and about 2 miles from Vermont I've seen those windows all over the place. I don't have a clue what they're called, but how about:

I have seen one house here in Columbus, GA with one tilted window, it was on the eave of the house facing the road. It was a square window tilted to look like a diamond. I though they had replaced it with what they could find available [since the house was old] but I guess this may be a trend in some areas. I don't know...now you will have me looking at house while driving to see if there are more.

That must be a Yankee thing.
Missouri is too poor to add silly windows. We can barely afford the ones we gots.
-alex... I'm so poor I can't afford to pay attention. |

I think that is the difference - the Vermont Yankees seem to make do with what is available and use the tools that are at their disposal. Most of these Vermonters are anything but wealthy- small farmers, loggers, etc.

There's one of them not far from my new place... I did find it strange, but being less than an hour from Vermont, now I know where it's from. :) |

as i work in residential construction, those windows to me are the visual equivalent to hearing fingernails scraping across a chalkboard. ouch. |

At first, I saw those pics and thought the windows were ridiculous...but as I look at them more closely, they would be absolutely wonderful for an attic bedroom, especially for like a little kid...awesome!
We don't have those in Indiana. |

People are using their attics, they want to get light and ventilation, there's no flat area to mount a window normally, just these sections under the eaves, plenty of old windows laying around, skylights are expensive, hard to install, and leak, so....
