ok so how many people print their own and what type of printers are you using? i would like to be able to print my own 8x10's--my daughter can print larger at the graphics shop--i bought 1 of those new kodack all in 1's thinking it would do --and it didn't do a bad job through the 1'st ink cartridges but now i have the stripes and can't get rid of them. was thinking about a new printer but don't know what to get---and don't really want to spend a fortune on ink either! |

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 and the quality of the prints is second to none...but after paying for paper and inks ($100 a set for ink) it gets rather pricy. I used Adorama before and was very pleased with the results. Sometimes they have specials where 8x10's are $.99 a copy. I don't think you can beat the price of that doing it yourself. I will say that this printer can do 13x19's which is very nice but again the ink costs unfortunately outweigh the good sometimes. |

I have a free Lexmark wireless printer, BT Broadband sent it to me a freebie for renewing my contract. It eats ink, but I do get to print off the odd photo and the quality is good enough to gauge whether it is worth paying for a decent print or not.
My grandchildren visit for print offs for school work, so I never really get to do what I want!!

All are correct in the cost of paper and ink! It can get expensive, but I have 3 Epson Stylus (200,260,2200)printers and use them all the time. The cost per page is still reasonable and you can adjust your prints to your needs without trying to convey it to an extenal entity. |

I just bought the Epson R1900 and I absolutely love it. 8 ink cartridges but I printed 20 8x10 and 7 13x19 before I had to change out the yellow and cyan cartridges. After buying this printer I fired my lab and their lousy prints. I print on Velvet Fine Art Paper $2.25/sheet which makes prints look fantastic. My cost for a matted and backed 13x17 is below $20.00 (not counting printer cost)- very reasonable.

I figure my HP photosmart7960 gets 20-30 8.5x11 before one of the three cartridges goes. They Cost $60-$80 to replace the set. I was spending $1 - $1.50 per sheet of good printer paper. That worked out to about $4.05 average per print. So I no longer print at home. I get good not great prints from Costco for $1.39 8x10/8x12 and they are always ready the next day by noon.
Costco.ca Prices
4x6 $0.15
5x7 $0.39
8x10 $1.39
8x12 $1.39
11x14 $2.49
11x16.5 $2.49
12x18 $2.99
I cant beat these prices printing at home!

Epson 4800 at home for fine art prints so I can control everything. I print a lot of back and white on 13x19 cotton rag paper or color on Epson premium luster 250 for color.
I will also use Costco for many smaller prints. |
