I use 400D & need to submit the file for validation. Somehow copying the file from CF card direct from camera in windows explorer is not working. I normally transfer my files by using Lightroom. The file is shoot in RAW. Should I send the file copying from camera software. Any clues?

| You can use the EOS utility to transfer the files from the camera instead of going through the windows explorer route or maybe you can use a card reader for transferring the same. Personally i find the EOS utility very convenient |

| Thank you manish. But my doubt is weather file copied though EOS utility will create problem for validation or not? Does this software changes files EXIF information? |

If you still have the original file in the camera card, you may be able to use a card reader, and upload the file directly from the card using the "choose file" " upload" route.
I think that there are a couple of threads dealing with "uploading files for validation" if you do a search for that in the Community/ Forums/ Announcements section.
Maybe this will help;

Bottom line is, you have a 400D. If you connect the camera to the computer, you must use the file transfer software. Use a card reader and cut/paste the file that way. That is the only way unless your computer has a CF slot. If it does, plug the card in there and use cut/paste.
The camera/software will not allow you to do it any other way. |

Found this in the admin thread on transfer warnings;

(RAW of JPEG). I don't hit "save" at any time, it all goes automatically (and I'm so happy with that!).
With RAW you're OK, with JPEG it depends whether the EOS utility modifies the JPEG file. If it auto-rotates, it may tag the file and the file would then not be a valid original.

So this means he CAN use the EOS software to transfer his originals with NO problem :)
Nice find :) |

Well, if there's any problem, he can blame Kirbic!
I'd suggest maybe he read the rest of the thread, though... someone may have contradicted Kirbic later on.... I just thought of that.
I'll grab the link.
eta; here :)
EUREKA!
From the OP;
If you shoot in RAW:
Transfer software does not affect the original image data of a RAW file. Therefore, RAW files moved by transfer software are valid originals. Note that you must submit a RAW proof file when requested. A JPEG saved from the original RAW is not sufficient.
(missed that the first time because I searched keywords and only looked for the highlights)

Actually he probably just needs the proper Codec... All Canon (digital) cameras become a drive (no need for the xfer software) when the right driver is installed (Windows).
ED: Actually I think the WIA drivers are provided with Windoze... He is using RAW so he probably only needs the RAW Codec for which ever flavor (Vista/XP) he is using so Windows (File System) recognizes the file...(assuming he is on Windows)... It is availalbe on the Canon site under downloads for the 400D.

| Thanks to all for the replies & helping me out. Anyway I have formated my drive & reinstalled my OS & other softwares since I was facing some other problems with some other softwares. Now I can directly copy from CF card in windows explorer.Well it's nice to read that copying RAW file through EOS is also having no problems. |
