My old monitor went out on me and I replaced it with a widescreen now everything looks distorted or I should say real wide. The aspect ratio on the new monitor is 1440 x 900 so I went into my desktop's resolution settings and apparently it only goes up to 1280 x 1024. What do I need to do to fix this problem? Return monitor for traditional shape or upgrade graphics drive? I'm at a loss. Thank you.

You can try updating your graphics driver first. However, If its too old of a graphics card that resolution might not be supported.

You answered your own question...
1) Probably the easiset is to return monitor for a 4:3 aspect monitor.
2) New Video card that supports 16:9/16:10 aspect, however if you video card is that old chances are your computer is that old. You may have to find an older AGPx8 card (which are getting harder to find) or you may be stuck with using an old PCI card.

well you have two options a new graphics card or get a regular 4:3 apsect monitor.
If you go the graphics card option it depends on what mother board you have (motherboards either support nvidia cards or raidon graphics cards) they sell the nvidia 6200 for like 60 bucks or less at walmart. I had one in my old computer and it supported my widescreen at 1680x1050. Let me know if you have any questions I built both of my computers from scratch and can walk you through a graphics card upgrade in 30 minutes. They are really easy!

| Get a new computer (with a new card) to go with the shiny new monitor. Really, it's the only solution. :-) |
