When I started calibrating my monitor (EyeOne for monitors only ~$250), I went back and reedited MANY of my favorite images because I hadn't been seeing them correctly. Monitors drift away from calibration very quickly so need to be recalibrated about once a month. Also, if you use more than one monitor, calibration is a MUST!

Absolutely; to both. Critical if you ever want a print to match your monitor. I use Spyder2 Express, about $70 at Amazon and worth twice that much.

So does this 70 dollar item do the same as the 300-600 dollar models from other companies? |

This is a pretty ambiguous question. Does a Maserati do the same as a VW, in my view yes, but not in a lot of others.
Obviously, I don't know as I don't have the other models. Having said that, I have just started making prints on my new Epson R1900 and they are far and away better than the stuff I was getting from the local commercial printer and one would think they have access to much more technology then I do. Therefore, I'm a happy camper until it's proven to me that my print quality will go up ten fold by buying a $600 item.

A question from me:
I only use a laptop - is it worth calibrating, indeed is it even possible to properly calibrate a laptop? If the answer is yes, what device would give the best results? |
