| As I vote, I am seeing a lot more images with dingy, smudgy, smoky, over-saturated and gloomy skies. I'm sure this effect has been enabled and promulgated by the considerable tools available in Adobe's Photoshop products. And, it is clear that many photographers have chosen HDR techniques to mitigate the exposure challenges of relatively bright skies. Some of these images are compelling. Some are not. These smoked, darkened, colored, surreal skies are becoming more extreme. My point is... many of these images now depart considerably from what one might imagine they would ever see with their eyes. To that extent, some images have become imaginary fantasies and cartoon-like. Nothing wrong with that, I guess. My question is... Is this a passing fad, or a trend towards less and less connection with the natural world? |

Dude......get out there and capture the real thing and show 'em what Mother Nature can do all by herself!

| Neither. It's just a look that some people like and others don't. DPCers were admiring/complaining about "Heida Skies" before you even registered here. Selective desaturation, HDR, and grunge techniques generate similar threads. |

I like HDR myself. Not so much the the cartoony look but I love making the sky intense. Which was odd for me since I'm usually old school and try to avoid over photoshoping an image. In fact most if not all my advanced editing challenge entries all fit under basic editing easily. One day I just wanted to see what could be done... after that I was hooked!
