I have an Olympus xD picture card M 1GB. I accidentally did an ALL ERASE! Is there any way to get my images back? Thanks!

IF the eraser function did as I think, then it just erased the entries in the file table. You should be able to obtain file recovery software that can recover the files. If your camera overwrites those files, however, then you may be SOL. Do not do anything that will write to the card in the meantime,or you are sure to lose them.

I have used photorescue in the past with wonderful results (and not a bad price). There are many programs that will do it (some might even be free)...the really important thing is to try and NOT use that card till you know you have recovered all you want from it. good luck.

eta...not sure how you normally access the card but, you may also need a card reader for the program to access the card (instead of going through the camera's usb plug).

You could recover all the photographs by repeatedly depressing the shutter button while replicating the scene in front of the lens to match what you previously shot.

Failing that... this thread has a few options.

I have used ZAR to retrieve files off of corrupted cards. Has worked great both times I have used it and even sent in a recovered file for an entry to be validated. Whats really cool is that the program has free image recovery so it costs you nothing.

I saw you fixed your misspelling ("threat" to "thread"). I was hoping it wasn't a Freudian slip!

This sucks. I'm looking at something called ZAR with a free version for digital images. Any experience with it?

I'll have to go back to the card that the camera came with -- it store a whopping THREE RAW files.

After I confirmed that I did in fact delete everything, I turned the camera off and removed the card. Hopefully there's hope.

Thanks all!

Good to hear. I'll try it when I get home. Does it require a card reader, or can it read straight off the camera, do you think? Also, I hope it supports the xD format. Usually, I shoot crap, but today I got a few good candids that I don't want to lose!

Thanks again!

I used it with my card reader. I have never transfered anything over directly from my camera. But I would imagine hat as long as you are hooked up to your computer the way you would normally transfer it should work.

ZAR Zero Assumption Recovery is the best recovery software that I have used, and I have used quite a few. Several years ago we lost 2GB of data from a wedding, and tried every recovery program available - ZAR was far and away the best.

Use a card reader. The camera would have to be the type that can show up as a disk drive. I don't know if yours can do that or not. Card readers are cheap. I bought a decent one at Wal-art for $12 the other day.

Got 'em all back! I even got them off of the camera (don't have a card reader). It took the better part of an hour, but I got everything I thought I lost. I used ZAR and plan to keep it around. It worked great.

THANKS TO ALL for the help!

Glad you got them back. I'm always worried this will happen to me one day.

On a related note, my Pentax Optio W10 has a function that allows you to undelete images - available only until you take the next shot. I wish this was available on my better cameras.

Glad that worked out. You'll be getting our bill in the mail shortly.

Fine. Don't take my suggestion. ;)

Glad you got them all back.
