I really like the shot. With the pregnant mom...and her oldest in the swing behind her...but the positioning of the shadows is bugging me.

anyone have any tips, tricks, or clues to fix a pic like this?

specifically..the shadows on her face.

Dude, the shadow is YOU! ;)

While there are ways to lighten the shadow areas (shadow/highlight, etc.), I'm afraid the shot will never be quite what you'd like because of the contrast. Had you used fill flash, you might have avoided the problem in the first place.

Yeah. The shadow on the girl is me...the shadow on her face is from the pole. :(

I'm sad. I really like this pic....

Hopefully you shot in RAW. Just make 2 exposures, one for the highlights and one for the shadows. Then just mask out what you don't need.
