So my homemade computer up and died on me about a month ago. I was going to build another one with a quad core; however, when I priced it out, it came out close to even with the Gateway FX641S - give or take a couple hundred so I went with Gateway. I have always steered clear of big box brand computers; however, I have to say that this thing is freaking fast. I am very impressed with it's ability to handle Vista. Quad core allows for very smooth video editing. Can't recommend this highly enough - for now. I'll see how long term this machine is. My home made lasted five years but I had continuous problems with it.

Gotta join ya there on the Gateway wagon...we too always steer away from big brands, and my husband always custom builds our desktops - they are monsters, and can handle ANY file I throw at them, but...

Our laptop is ancient, and this past weekend we replaced it with a Gateway P6860FX that is awesome! Especially for the money - only $1349 - it has it all, and owner reviews say it is great for gaming, though I will use it mostly for Photoshop. I've been streaming some HD content with it and it is GREAT. Just absolutely love this thing! "Smokin" does cover it.

I have had this for almost two weeks and have thrown everything I could at...even had to restore once due to trying to install a virtual drive - I knew better - and it just keeps churning. This thing is a power house. I am so happy I don't have to be my own tech support anymore. I am so tired of having to fix my own system. I looked into the Dell; however, they came under powered - literally - with only 400W power supply. This thing was made to work. I love it so far.
