Hi all,
I'm going to be taking a 7 day cruise up to Alaska in about two weeks and I'm having kind of a dilemma. Right now I have the following:
Canon 70-200mm f/4L
Canon 10-22mm
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8
Now my question is this. If you have been on a trip like this, are going to go on a trip like this, or even if you live up in Alaska; would you sell the 10-22mm lens in order to get a 100-400 or 300mm IS? The only way I can afford to get a super tele is to get rid of the 10-22. Will the 28-75mm be wide enough for what I'm going to be seeing up there? Because I really have no idea what I'm going to be seeing. I've looked at some pictures and they range from a wide open landscape to a bear or whale. I obviously know that the wide would be good for the landscapes and the superteles would be good for the wildlife but what am I going to see more of? The other option is to get the Canon 1.4x teleconverter for the 70-200mm and stick with the 10-22mm.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I wouldn't sell anything, especially not that one. I would get rid of the Tamron if anything.
I have a rental site that you could rent either a 300mm or 400mm for a couple weeks. We have very competitive prices and can ship you the lens on a moments notice.

I would agree with this one. You will likely be at the extremes, wide angle for majestic landscapes and tele for whales or eagles, etc. And renting is a good idea, unless you know a friend who has a 400 and will let you borrow it! |
