So, I have a dillema between these two lenses :
Sigma 70-300 and Canon 75-300
Sigma looks like a better deal from the photos I've seen on DPC but I would like to hear a word from the owners!
Thanks

I used to own the sigma ... it's good ... not great ... but better than the canon

focus is slow-ish and will hunt a bit, but it's pretty sharp and has excellent macro ability

I`ve used both and the sigma is better all round. It`s a touch sharper better built and the macro feature is useful if you have no macro lens.

These are from the sigma

And one from the canon

Hopper, your photo is excellent, but the thing which confuses me is that you stated that the aperture was 2.8, while in the specification for this lense I found that the maximum aperture is f/4 ?!

oh, just noticed that this photo is your signature, probably has nothing to do with the sigma lense :-)

I can vouch for the sigma, very good for the price. Macro is a good introduction to this kind of photography, but a bit limited as it's avalable between 200-300mm. If you want to photograph tiny things, you 'll be using it @300mm for the 1:2 macro, and the depth of field at this focal length is so thin that no tripod will help, unless you have a macro rail. Quality is excellent though, for the price.

Sigma, no question.

I'm with LoudDog - no question.

The Sigma's an excellent lens - the focus speed leaves a little to be desired but for the price it's surprisingly sharp and well built.
