You outdone yourself John! That is just beautiful.

ETA: Wow, even with the cool weather, there is *some* squirm from atmospheric effects. I can't imagine more perfect weather for that shot.

stunning John--a 'How'd they do that?' would be cool ...hint hint , hehe

Citymars:
Very cool! Did you do timelapse recording or are these manual exposures? I'm curious as to whether or not you had to manually adjust your settings while shooting.

Set and leveled tripod 20 minutes before moonrise. Composed the shot based on the location of the capitol and where the moon would be. The animation is completely uncropped so my preparation paid off. I set the initial shutter/aperture based on the light levels at the time, which was still a little twilighty, but the light levels changed dramatically as the scene unfolded (decreasing ambient light and the moon's changing brightness as it rose). I did modify my shutter and aperture a little, but it's so easy to blow out the moon that I didn't want to get just a big white blob - as I've managed to achieve before. You can see the changes in the exposure as the animation unfolds.

Here are two stills from the sequence, in my pBase gallery:
