I'm heading over to Madrid this weekend and wondered if anyone DPCers had any advice on some good locations to take photos. Never been to Spain before and looking forward to taking some shots if/when I'm able to get a minute or two.

There are some great landscape opps. if you can get to the Valley of the Fallen. I didn't have time in Madrid to take many pics but let me know if you get to Barcelona or Seville. |

Well you can find all the usual suspects in any tourist guide; Puerto del Sol, Palacio Real, La Moncloa and the surrounding area, Parque del Retiro, Parque de El Capricho, Museo del Prado, Museo Nacional Reina Sofia (You can't go to Madrid and not see El Guernica) etc. I suppose you won't have much spare time but for photography I'd definitely recommend El Escorial and particularly Toledo, which is one the most beautiful cities I've ever seen, and about 1-1 1/2 hour drive from Madrid.

La Soleá: "Well after midnight you may find the place packed with Gypsies and Madrileños, all in thrall to the rhythmic, heartfelt music produced by a Gypsy guitarist and a singer..."
I can honestly say this place packed three of the best experiences of my life. I went once and I went back every night while I was in Madrid. It's the real deal when it comes to Flamenco and local flavor.

Cool. Will take note of these (any any more to come).
Will hopefully have some time on Sunday, and in the evenings during the week, but not enough to go driving around too far from Madrid. Was looking for things within walking distance of the centre of town really.
Might be able to do some proper touring later in the yearâ€Â¦ might be back there in November.

Trip two is rapidly approaching... this trip will be a little longer and I may venture beyond the city limits this time. Suggestions more than welcome.
Also... looking to compile a list of great tapas bars in Madrid. Anyone here know of any. |

Just came from Madrid, it was fabulous. You can take a look at some of the photos here, more to come soon>>>
MADRID
My advice is to hit the streets. Just walk, observe, and don't stick to the main streets where the rest of the tourists go. Instead of that, walk the little alleys, between the buildings, around the back yards and that kind of stuff.
As already mentioned, don't you miss TOLEDO! It's only 1h drive from Madrid and you can catch a bus and go there every half hour (roundtrip tickect is around 12 euros). It's worth it, you'll see! I still have plenty of photos to edit from there but I guess I'll have them online soon.
There's a great tapas bar called El Tigre, my friends said it's the best in Madrid. I don't know the exact address but I'll find out if you need it. PM me if you need more info!
