Hey everyone. I was slightly taken back by my score on the recent High Contrast challenge. Here's my entry:
Be very honest, do you think it's high contrast, and why do you think it was a sub-6 score? I was thinking this would score at least a 6.5, but that goes to show what I know ;) I'm not one of those that whines about my score, but I like to learn from it.
Any input on this shot and the meeting the challenge aspect is greatly appreciated :D
Thanks!

I would not personally consider it a great example of high contrast. If you look at the histogram, it is a smoothly falling slope from the whites.
High contrast, to me, will have a histogram with a valley in the midtones. High contrast is also generally used to enhance a mood or feeling. I don't associate a content baby with a mood that would be enhanced by high contrast.

The lack of extremes on the left side hurt you on this one. The lower right quadrant and eyes would work well for high contrast, but the entire left half is actually low contrast IMO. |

Hey, it still scored WAYYY higher than my entry, which was beyond any doubt a high contrast image. (My brilliance is apparently not appreciated by the voting population...) |

Adorable photo which would have done very well in a portrait-type challenge (an anticipated score of 6.5 would not be far off the mark). But I agree with previous comments, most of the photo has much too much in the mid-tone range to be considered high contrast, which is why the voters beat on you with a sub 6 score. |
