So i have never done one of these, and i cant expect to charge as much as professionals (but once i get one under my belt im sure i could get closer). I was offered 3 wedding related events, bachelorette (coed) party, portraits, and wedding event. I know portraits, wedding event iv seen examples, but what about a bachelorette party.
1st question: how does one take photos of a bachelorette party??
2nd question: What are some estimate pricing i could use for the 3 events, (mainly for time, i dont really wanna deal with prints)
THanks,
Tim

Why not do them for free or to cover your costs in order to gain the experience and build your portfolio? Do you have the equipment you need to do these events? One shoots a bachelorette party pretty much the same as any other event. |

Why would you shoot something, anything for free. Even if you aren't very experienced yet your time is still worth something. The time you will take to process the images is worth something. Even if you don't want to deal with prints, I assume you will make the images print-ready.... that takes time. Figure how how many hours you will need to put into the events, decided on a fair hourly rate for yourself, do the math, charge that.

i was considering adding it up and getting 5hrs wedding, 2 hrs portrait, 3hrs party, i will have to throw in a few hours for processing since there will be more images than a standard shoot. all at 20$hr?? input? |

All that matters is that YOU are comfortable with that price. I charge a much higher hourly rate, but that's what I'm comfortable with. Edit: Wedding + reception is 8 hours or more.... I've gone 14.

Check out some threads around here on what it COSTS to run an photography business. $20/hour? ROFL! I know photogs that pay their assistants $20/hour - and all they do is carry stuff and follow directions.
As soon as you start charging money you are a professional. And all that goes with that title comes with the money - as in potential liability. Odds are small something will go wrong, but it DOES happen. Just ask Sherry, my bride from last saturday!
She hired a coworker's friend as her DJ. Said DJ was to set up friday...didn't. cocktails started at 2 on saturday. Still no DJ. DJ showed about 3:30...and had forgotten a cord she needed to make her gear function. So she gave back the check, packed up and left. Yep. Chickened out and ran away. No DJ. Ever been to a wedding without music? Kind of RUINS the dancing - someone took their ipod and that tiny sound allowed the first dance. Nothing else occurred - no mother/son or father daughter, no boquet toss, etc. Is the DJ gonna get sued? Possible. Ruined a reception that cost in excess of $10,000 - a once in a lifetime event. DJ may have given back the money, but they'll lose in any court in the land. And insurance doesn't cover stupidity (leaving gear at home falls under stupidity IMO at least)
Like I said, the odds of something going wrong are small. But the consequences can be large.

You're going to have to figure that one out. Everyone shoots differently. If it were me, I'd try to be one of the girls and take all my shots from their perspective (and if they paid well enough, I'd even dress the part).

Again, you're going to have to figure that one out. Everyone's time is worth a different amount. What is your time worth to you? And are your clients willing to pay what your time is worth?
