For the last few days I have been mounting and framing and arranging new images in my office and preview room. The office (where I live about 16 hours a day) is the former formal living room in my house. Its the first thing people see when they come in.
The preview room, former diningroom, is directly across from the office and is the 2nd thing people see. I use the preview room for... uhm... well.... anyway the huge white void on the wall is the temporary viewing screen until I get a more permenant one. Its hanging over a piece of art. lol I like keeping clients in these 2 rooms and the studio that way the rest of the house can be sloppy and they don't see.
By the way... my house is never this clean unless clients are in.... I tidied up for the pictures. Oh, and I guess I should stop ordering new prints...for a while atleast. :)
and for those who haven't seen it, here are some shots of the studio from a few months ago:

Very professional :)
(But you didn't show us shots of the kennels in the back yard that your poor kids have to live in, since you've taken over the house ;) ) |

Nice Cin!
Ooooh in the coming summerholiday we're gonna do some things in the house, so my studio gets bigger :D
I'm gonna make a photo-wall with old (antique) frames I got yesterday (40!), some with photo's, some with old paintings and drawings, some empty.
I'll post some photos when it's ready! |

I guess, technically, in the family room.... but I can't remember when I last took the time for gaming. My old fav passtime has fallen by the wayside. :/

Beautiful set-up, Cindi. It has a wonderful balance between professional office and a feeling of cozy, welcoming home. |

Thanks, Karin. I'm glad it doesn't come across as too much of one or the other. It IS my home... and still its my business, so I've tried to join the two.

My office is a mess, but clients don't go there (thank god)! My yard has been a bit neglected, and therefore messy. Been trying to get that squared away this spring..so far it's not coming along fast enough. I may have to hire a landscaper, a cost I don't want to pay!
The clients see the basement...meeting space, studio space and workspace (for framing, etc) in a corner. I want more wall space - so I can get more pictures like you! I am also trying to get the garage cleared out of everything so that I can shoot in there, making for bigger camera room and more space in the basement for a meeting room.
My wife is mad at me as the photo biz takes over my house. I'm hoping in 2010 to put up a building for the studio and just move everything there and then have a house back. I wanted to do it next year, but I think I'm going to try and wait a year to have more cash/less debt for the project. At some point I've got to run out of things to buy, right? RIGHT? LOL

Whuevah! I've been going nuts with the landscaping. Both front and back. Luckily I can have fun things like palm trees that grow pretty fast. I've built a pond/bridge/creek system in the back for shooting in different spots. For the IRS, you call "landscaping".... "outdoor posing stations". :)

When I lived in the city and had a small lot (and no kids, no business) I had a nice yard. I then moved to the country and got 2 acres. Instead of a few bags of mulch at Lowes I got a tri axle dumptruck of mulch - 20 yards or some such number. Expensive and it was a HUGE pile. Took me from early may till august to get it spread, and in a year or so it looked like i'd done nothing. I gave up right about then.
I've been working at some retaining walls and side walks, a new porch and a shed (to put the garage stuff in). April had things moving along quite well and then May was insane business wise so I feel SOOO far behind. I also put in 160 foot of hedge this spring but I think I can ignore it till next year. As soon as I catch up I'll be putting in some 'decorative' fence panels for use a props and backgrounds.
I sometimes cheat and use the waterfall the assisted living home installed next door. The trees and bushes I planted when we moved in have finally begun to reach decent sizes - been here 10 years now so it's about time! Used a couple this spring for BGs for engagement pics.

Today I'm going to be destroying, I mean renovating a bathroom so I won't be embarassed when clients use it. I'm pretty good at the "tear it apart" part, but not so good with the "put it back together" part. :/

Today we are pulling up our carpet in our studio to extract the water that leaked onto it from our air condition unit. No shoots this week.
Great spaces Cindi. Inspirational for us as we hope to be moving in that direction in the next year or so. Your spaces look awesome. |

Heh. I just went to HomeDepot to get a light fixture and paint for the bathroom...... but ended up also buying two 3-light track fixtures for the office. Now my pictures have spotlights on them! :)

If I had to do that my list would consist of one line;
"As many of whatever as you feel is right under the circumstances." |

Still kinda light outside so hard to see their full effect, but I tried. Here's a shot with them off, the way the room is normally lit in the evening and a shot with them on. WOW. :D
I went with a plug-in version because of the issue I've always had with this room.... no celong fixture. I have a very cool looking track system already purchased for the celing, but gotta find an electricial to put in a junction box before I can use it. So I decided these were better than nothing and easily removed when I get the other one up. Then I can use them in the studio. :)

BTW, I don't shop with a list. |
