Who determines if a photo is printable?
I recently noticed a little logo next to one of my pictures that said this.

If the image is already here (like an entry), there's a box.button below it on the Portfolio Manager page to upload a printable version.
If you are uploading directly to a Portfolio gallery, there are two upload button/box combination -- one for regular images and one for printable images; the second one will automatically create a Portfolio preview and thumbnail.
You probasbly used that box/button instead of the regular one.
