ok i have these aviator sunglasses that make some clouds(the big fluffy ones) look very 3D. any ideas on making my photos have that 3D quality? other than using photoshop to add contrast etc

sounds like polorizing to me....

If the white clouds in this gallery are similar to what you want, I usually underexpose to as to retain detail all throught he highlight area -- avoid any blown-our areas -- and then carefully adjust with one or more Curves to bring out as much detail/tonal range as possible. Careful tinting with a single-channel Curve (e.g. the Blue Curve) or by making it a duotone.

ETA: I've only recently gotten a polarizer, but yes, it may help bring out detail/contrast in clouds, depending on their orientation with respect to the sun.

There are also Photoshop techniques to make photos into true or pseudo-3D images; the kind you look at with bi-colored glasses, or stereo images.

so is there something i can put on my lens or something to polarize my photos?

Yes, a circular polarizer. Google is your friend, or just search B&H. Should be in every photographer's bag.

Shoot through the glasses? ;)

Or, as suggested, buy a C-PL.

I have 4 or 5 filters and the CPOL is by far my favorite. It does wonders to skies and cuts through haze nicely and helps eliminate glare and reflections.

The CPL is great for water too.
