My partner Joe and I went to City Hall today to receive a provincial tourism award for our website. It was given out by Hospitality Newfoundland & Labrador and is called the "Ambassador of Hospitality Award". From their website:
"This award recognizes individuals or groups who, through their careers, private lives or volunteer work, show dedication to the promotion and development of the tourism industry in Newfoundland and Labrador."
It was held in council chambers and the mayor was there as well as the provincial Minister of Tourism and a bunch of people, council chambers was full. We found out last week we won but I didn't realize it was going to be as big a deal as it was. We were the first to receive an award, then the city gave out 5 tourism awards.

It's nothing fancy, we certainly won't win any awards for website design. We started it in 2001, we just wanted a way to share our photos. The site is pretty popular among Newfoundlanders, especially those who have moved away from Newfoundland (there are a lot of those).

edit to add: Upon my first glance of the thread title, I thought you had won a "terrorism" award - which I thought was really strange until I remembered how many websites I have seen blow themselves up.
Congrats again - your site is extremely well put together and full of lively content.
