I am buying a new 40D Body (woot) today. Was going to go thru B&H but they're closed. When low and behold, Costco sends me an email with the 40D body for $949. But they're also including a free 4gig compact flash card. I am not familiar with the brand. So I was hoping someone could chime in on whether it was an okay brand.

I've personally never heard of that particular brand. Seems like a good deal with a $40 card thrown in, but check the shipping/tax charges if applicable in your state (6% tax on $950 is $57, so $1007 plus shipping). With the added extra costs, that might take you higher than the 40D and a more reputable card purchased elsewhere. Amazon has the 40D body for $940, no card included, but free shipping and no sales tax for Penn. A 4 gig Transcend (good reputation) card is only $20 there too. So $960 delivered.
Another thing to consider with the 40D is the card size if you shoot a lot of RAW. With the 40D I only get about 330 shots on my 4 gig cards now, so I recently just got a 16 gig card. Anyways, probably more than you wanted to hear, just trying to give you options. You'll love the 40D, nice step up from the 20D. Happy shopping! |

Thanks Telehubbie...
And the offer was from Costco. You don't get much more reputable. Heck, when I bought my iPod at Costco, I had a 90-day return policy (compared to most store's 14 - 30 day policies).
I'd like to get a larger card. I was looking at getting an 8 gig extreme.
BTW, I didn't get the Costco deal, because I found out there was a rebate on the purchase of Canon 5D or 40D with either Canon PIXMA 9000 ($300) or 9500 ($350).
How could I pass up purchasing a 40D already with a $200 rebate and get another $300 off of a Pixma 9000. I mean when else would I be able to get a 9000 printer for $125???

| Rob Galbraith includes ATP in his speed tests (and it performs well). He only deals with the name brands, I think. |
