Hi All,

I'm having a rather annoying problem whereby my e-mails are being marked as SPAM by Windows Mail with SPAM filters set to high.

It's happening on all mail that isn't a reply to a senders original.

I can only assume it's down to my domain being reelexposures.com and the term "exposure" being in the address?? I was in IT for 10 years but know very little about mail filters and how they work so is this possible?

If so is there anything I can do about it short of registering a different name for e-mail purposes? It's very frustrating as I have to follow up all customer e-mails with a call to be sure they got my mails!

Help!

Thanks

I doubt it's the domain name. Why don't you try setting the spam filter to medium or low?

Just forward it all to smardaz. :P

Louis - he is saying his outgoing email is being rejected or flagged - so it could be that your domain or IP is on a block list. Send me an email: art@artroflmao.com and I'll help you figure it out.

Oh.. I got it backwards. I guess the obvious question is whether it's just one recipient or not, because it sounds like a blacklist situation to me.

If it is email being sent from your reelexposures.com domain, it appears clean:

Thanks for the responses, Art i've sent you a mail, thanks for your help. (I got an automated response checking I was human!! but i've replied as it suggested and so hopefully it'll get through to you)

It's happened quite a few times, I guess only to people with SPAM filters set to high?

The hosting company is Micfo.com so I guess it could be a blacklisting issue with them? But I guess your check would have resolved that anyway Art?

If there's any other info that would be helpful then ask away :0)

thanks

Got your email and sent you the following reply, Kev:

"I see. Well about the only thing you can do is avoid using phrases like "penis enlargement" and "Viagra" in your communications and ask your clients to whitelist you in their spam filters or let them know they may be losing other important, legitimate communications as well.

This came through fine, by the way.

Good luck."

Thanks, do you think it could be down to the domain name? If so I would seriously consider another account just for e-mails (can't change the name itself as there's too much spent on advertising)

Otherwise is it worth speaking to the Hosting company about possible blacklisting?

Thanks again

One thing you can do is use your ISP provided email in your SMTP settings in your email client. In toher words, in Outlook, leave your incoming mail set to mail.yourdomain.com (or whatever it is) and set your outgoing to smtp.comcast.net (or whatever your ISP outgoing email server is) and put in your ISP provided email credentials. THen your mail will be routed out through their server.

If you keep your e-mails down to 12 words or less, most spam filters won't stop it... no matter what you advertise. ;D

It's hard to tell what a spam filter is triggering on. They have fancy algorythms that calculate words, the placement of words within sentences, spaces between words and probably even if you left a dangling paracip or two. Most filters work on a score. The more of what ever it is that it's keeping score on and how ever tight the filter is set, the better chance it will get snagged, even if it's perfectly clean. Even some of the gmail, AOL, Yahoo and other mail services that tack on their free advertisement at the bottom can trigger a spam filter. And spam filters hate people that use big complicated fancy words. So when you send a message, use small, short words and type slowly. :D

Thanks for the tips, it seems to be a problem no matter what the mail content though. If it's someone new with a high Junk Filter level set then it goes to Junk.

Maybe i'll contact the hosting firm to see if they can shed some light onto it.

Thanks
