Um...can one use selective colour... and boost the blacks for instance?

You can't select and adjust a single colour but you can do adjustments that effect the whole image.

I thought you could use selective colors in basic, just as long as it is applied to the entire image.

Yeh that's what I mean - you can do colour balance adjustments but you can't use the select colour tool in photoshop as that would be editing a specific part of the shot.

I think you guys are saying the same thing, but just to clarify there are two similar sounding tools being talked about here: "select color range" and "selective color". Select color range is NOT legal in basic as it makes a selection (which is its purpose), Selective Color IS legal when applied to the whole image.

I use a selective color layer specifically to boost the blacks in basic challenge entries all the time.

As a side note, it might be helpful to move this thread out of Member Discussion so that the peons can benefit as well. Those poor bastards can only enter basic editing challenges, after all.
