If older photos were allowed, I'd have plenty.

In case you also would like to know what kind of score you'd receive "if" you could have entered.

Based on two comments, some people are making up their own very restrictive definitions of what is high contrast. I don't think it's fair to vote with such arbitrary discrimination. An image can certainly be high contrast if it has some midtone pixels in addition to the ends of the histogram. The two comments I'm complaining about suggest my image is DNMC because it has pixels nicely distributed from 0 to 255. They are suggesting the image must have only blacks and whites. So, I guess they are trying to elevate their own scores by discriminating against images which are not like their own.

I'd say that their viewpoints are as narrow as the dynamic range they are indicating.

I found a tut on what is and is not high key/high contrast:

//www.lumitouch.com/benstudiotutorial/benji9.html

about 3/4 of the way down.

Hey, just because you're some kind of grumpy old man doesn't mean everyone else is.

Mine would be somewhere along the same lines

Thanks very much for the link, it has been helpful. Prior to the rollover I had been following a number of threads on the topic, opinions have been very divided, and outcomes some what inconclusive.

Yep, but this challenge isn't limited to high key, so it's kinda misleading.

Hey, just because you're some kind of grumpy old man doesn't mean everyone else is.

Well, I figured I might as well and go ahead and "vote" on them since they're available. Of course, now if everyone that missed a deadline or didn't get a shot for the challenge did this, we would kind of have two challenges going for the same topic at the same time now wouldn't we?

I was just saying that if older photos were allowed, I'd have plenty. I'm sure everyone would. It was in response to a post before mine. Did you happen to read that one?

That's funny, especially the comment given on my current image. Makes me questions if you know what you're talking about.

1) 10
2) 9
3) 9
4) 7 (pump the levels more and for this challenge I'd give it a 9 or 10 ;) ! :)

what is your current score? :) I'm curious :) :-D I bet I gussed which one is yours after looking thru the photos again! :) :-D

don't get disgouraged- I got 3's and extremely low scores on mine and I _KNOW_ its a good shot *L* :-P watch for the constructive comments that actually seem to take the time to analyze the shots ;)

cokronk was nicely showing some images to the effect of high-contrast related to the subject just like the links posted; - scoring and shooting those images down IMO is not needed- its not IN THE CHALLENGE -- I did it to show the diffrence of opinion in photography varies HUGE among voters --will you go in and share your votes on all the images in the links related to high-contrast now? NO (those are available by the way) and I sure as heck won't waste my time going in and giving most of them 8's and 7's and so on and so-fourth...

someone gave me a 3 as my first score and my second and third scores were 7 and 8 so it goes to show YOUR 4 may be my 8

I think those are great examples of what is HIGH CONTRAST - but everyone has diffrent opinions obviously

Thanks...not worried about it.

The current one sucks, but rightly so. I set up a light, took three pictures, posted one up, and then went to bed...

I could have posted my dead bird. Half the people I know want to hang it on their wall and half the people I know think I'm morbid. Oh well. So I know mine would be easy for you to pick out...now what about the other way around?

Well, what a way to make friends and influence people.

Actually, you will find that Glad is really fair and usually right in his comments and voting, most of us are, we all see things differently in shots . as for your scoring, mine would have been.
1) 8

You need to chill and learn, that is what this site is all about

Being sarcastic is a good way to make friends and influence people? Could have fooled me. Next time I'll be more open to some one that sounds like they're attacking me. I mean, I looked through his portfolio pictures and couldn't say much about them, but I didn't start spouting off about them.

You're numbers mean nothing to me. For all I know you're a soccer mom with a big opinion and an advanced P&S. It's the attitude here is why I got so put off.

I mean, if people want to keep going on about it, then we can do this for the next couple of weeks until some one gets bored. That or we can just drop it.

Life is too short to get angry over the small things. Let it go. :) People here will give you $hit all the time, but they are joking most of the time. :)
Just ask Slippy.

I think the whole just drop it was a good idea; but not likely to happen so I'm going to start ignoring this thread now :)
you all have fun bashing eachother and arguing -- try to remember opinions vary and everyone has an opinion on something =IE: your 4 may be my 8

open-mindedness is a big key to -learning- supposedly that's what this site is about -but some (not pointing fingers so don't get all upity with me please) people seem extremely fixed on their exact point of view and not opened to other thoughts etc on the topic at hand which is a very broad description and could really mean a lot of things- is anyone wrong? maybe/ maybe not / oddly a lot of extremely low scores are getting dolled out and extremely high scores - maybe i should just go back and put everyone at a 5 since there is no exact definition to high contrast and it all differs so darn much according to everyones opinions? :) and according to the multiple opinions of what is and what is not high contrast all the images entered fit in one way or another one definition or another = judge the photos on their own merits? or go by definitions unagreedupon by the masses so far? = we'll find out what is 'high contrast' when the blue is discovered and the brown, so why not just wait and see at this point? the voting has begun our entries are it its a moot point now right? actually discussing what is and isn't high contrast may effect peoples voting patterns if i'm not mistaken here in? or perhaps not who knows= only the voters;

I -could- go in and do the whole 5 bit and say whatever at this point to this challenge -- but nah - I gave out good scores in my opinion 5+ on most images still -(i'm still voting but If I do see a 4 i'll be sure to comment as to why I gave a low score) , and i'm still giving out good scores (several 10's infact, because there are a LOT of GOOD photos in this challenge) --heck maybe i'll go thru and give everyone a 10 - i'm seriously contemplating it at this point with my annoyance with all the low 1's and 2's getting dolled out for no particular reason= this is a very opened to interpertation challenge; we all have diffrent opinions= lets just leave it at that? (nah i'm sure the argument will continue tho)

Personally my score is what it is= I don't care :)

have a great day folks I'm now lowering my personal opinion of anyone who further argues in this thread; because its really petty and silly- its a learning site; we are supposed to learn from eachother not get up in arms and pissy with one another - we all score diffrent / our opinions are diffrent / its been established- :) move on please and show that you've advanced past petty arguments! :) and my personal opinion is raised for those whom stop arguing in here too :) not that most ppl give a darn what I think *heh* :)

~~life is a good, sometimes bad joke; laugh and enjoy it or it goes to waste in dead silence~~ :P :)

Thanks for posting this link. I found it very interesting, especially the High Contrast example at the bottom. I had been wondering about the difference between High Key and High Contrast. This was helpful.

for the COLOR entries -and people who are all confused about that aspect (all it takes is a google search to garner about a hundred results you can find your own and whatever suits your tastes- vote as you please don't let tutorials change your opinions/votes or thoughts have at it)

Yeah I'd have to agree. Great info!
